Only if you’re planning on playing with friends. If not, no, not really.
I’m lucky enough that my work gave me Shadowlands off and Thanksgiving off without having to ask yay me !!
Initially I agree with you. Both BFA and Legion had pretty smooth launches.
But my gut feeling is that this is the first expansion since WoD where Blizzard are trying to shove everyone into the same zone, and WoD was the last “bad” launch day, so we may see a repeat of Tanaan lag.
But it’s not going to be anything like the dumpster fire that was classic launch, even in the worst case scenario.
Well odds are you’re gonna be in long queue
The expansion is releasing at night time so it’s not gonna be much of a day off.
Expect lot of bugs, crashes, server restarts and login queues
You won’t be able to play. Take a day off the following week.
LMAO well when Wrath launched, servers were crashing, lag was outrageous & players were letting their inner Karens out everywhere!
The truth of the matter is, the first character you take into the Shadowlands will be REQUIRED to do every Covenant’s main questline, in order. Blizzard has set this order, in spite of the fact that (a) players have ALWAYS complained about ONE starting area for an expansion and (b) there are more of us at home & able to play for this launch than there have been in the recent past.
So you will be dumped, along with everyone else, into The Maw & then into Bastion. Granted, they now have “sharding” which is basically the same as EQII’s instancing - once a max number of players has been reached for “Bastion1”, “Bastion2” will open up (although you will not be notified if/when this happens like you are in EQII). I believe they believe this function will prevent bottle-necking/spawn issues/lag at launch. We can only wait & see. (Oh and you can switch shards to be with friends/guildmates if needs be.)
Apologies if that sounded all “doom & gloom” but if you’re going to make a decision, you need all the information. I’d say, “See you in the Shadowlands” but you’re on Tich & I’m not so… Have fun & kill many things!!!
It is typically not worth it. Even the smoothest launch is going to have its share of problems. You’d be better off taking the following Friday / Monday off and having a long weekend to play after the gates have opened fully and the initial problems and surge of players have evened out.
I made sure to not take the day off that day heh. Most of the day is gone already (unless you work a later shift) and it normally does not go well. DDOS attacks, server congestion, very long server queues.
I think I was able to play for about 2 hours on BFA launch. Was much better the next day/s
Launch day is the closest we get to a world event any more.
Everything and anything can happen on launch day. Weird bugs, lag, exploits ripped large.
I love launch day.
I love launch day because of the chaos of it.
If you insist on wide open vistas of hiccup free play, then do not play on launch day.
If you want the potential of seeing things that you’ll never see again? Then show up and be part of the problem.
The past few launches have been boringly painless. Sometimes I lose hope, but this is Blizzard and the kindness of the WoW community (such as infecting people during the Bronjahm rare boss), so there’s always hope for chaos and bedlam.
We have days launch+1 to end of expansion for boring routine and “yay, more dailies”.
Drama? Excitement? Spectacle?
Launch day.
Be there.
Launch day is overrated.
Next few days are fun though.
Launch time at 6pm for us here so work is over for a good deal of people. Might as well go. Day after? Probably not nah.
Best of luck with your finals, you’ve got this!!!
Happy early Birthday!
Yay!

I’m moving so I probably won’t have a chance to see launch and I’m telling myself it’ll be ok but I’m gonna be secretly salty the entire time.
I will never let a game dictate my work schedule, that’s a level of sadness ill never succumb to
Login boss will be proud ![]()
I already have a week off without sacrificing work . I also have lot of popcorn for all the drama to come
Nooo, don’t do that. The maintenance will go on for like 7 or 8 hours beyond the 2-3 they expect; the servers will crash, the lag & log in queues will be horrible, and you’ll be right back here on the forums “but I took the day off work for launch day!” like a thousand other people will do.
save yourself the grief.
you’re right. i hadn’t thought of it that way. it’s really sad that i’ll still be getting paid next week even though i’m playing a game i enjoy instead of being at the office
There will be 500 people trying to kill 10 bears at the same time with only 15 bears available and a spawn time of 5 min each. It’s a nightmare the first couple of days after launch
Probably because he enjoys the game? People can take the day off for whatever they please. You come off a bit judgemental and its kind of icky tbh.
There will def be issues. For BFA I was not off, but didn’t miss much because of instability. This time, by chance I am off wed/thurs which should be good enough.
