It’s a toss up.
Between MoP, WoD, Legion, and BfA - WoD was the only one that taking a day off would have been worthless for me - queues were like 8 hours, so I could literally queue as I was going to work and have it pop as I was getting back.
The others had manageable queues, although MoP’s intro quest was a total mess of being stuck in an unresponsive vehicle for like 30 minutes before you could finally finish and move on.
I didn’t play at launch for previous expansions.
Legion and BfA launches were fine.
Sharding prevents overcrowded and laggy zones.
It’ll be fine. Just enjoy it.

take day off from work and sit in queue instead of making money, enjoy
I did the WoD launch since I wasn’t working at the time. Was on when the portal opened and everything was great until you had to set up your garrison. Only one person could use the object at a time. The amount of angry people was beautiful.
Besides that its w/e. Unless your going for realm or world first 60 it’ll all still be there.
I am expecting a million voices all screaming at their monitors as they all try to collect 5 bear guts for a low drop rate quest.

Maybe some lag, maybe some disconnects as they push a hotfix, maybe log in queues in the 10’s of thousands as everyone tries to get back in at the same time, maybe even some servers going offline for whatever reason.
Thing is, that’s half the fun of release day to me, if everything went wihout a hitch, no lag, smooth sailing, perfectly populated shards to prevent overcrowding? it’d have me worried that no one was playing.
Falls on scheduled days off
I’ve done it every expansion since Wrath. Down time is exaggerated. It used to be rough, now it might be a rolling restart here or there in more recent expansions.
I’ll admit with the delay it could be a roll of the dice but the experience is highly enjoyable.

Like I said, normally I wouldn’t. The delayed launch dropped it into a previously-scheduled vacation. So… I may as well see what it’s like on launch day.
That reminds me of the MoP launch. That vehicle quest at the start where kills were not shared. There were like hundreds of helicopters in the air and only one could get credit for each ship at a time, all mobs were always dead too. It was horrifyingly magical.

I don’t think I ever took a launch day off, but if you’re east coast, best not to since we are just 3 hrs ahead of west coast. So, 3pm west coast would be 6pm east coast.

No, but I will have off from Thanksgiving up until Dec. 8th. Just so happened that launch day got delayed until right before I’m taking time off. Pretty good coincidence.
Maybe I’m just lucky, but I haven’t had trouble on launch day since WoD (and even then it wasn’t terrible for me). I’m a little worried about bastion being overloaded but whatever. Anyway I’m not taking Monday off since it doesn’t come out till after work but I am taking Tuesday and maybe Wednesday off.

As others have said, the best advice is to take the day after launch off. Oh and since you’re on Tich… probably a long queue.
never launch day.
the days after.
Last two launches were very smooth except for a few key servers, IIRC.
SL leveling is more linear, though - so it could potentially be more unstable.
launch day isn’t as bad anymore as people like to meme, but If you can only take one day off, you should go for Tuesday.
Nope I work the entire week this includes the holiday…
My day off anyway. See you at 5pm CST.
I’m looking forward to SL, but I’m not looking forward to hundreds of people all working on the same quests at the same time.
