BLUF: I am trying to take over our guild but it gives me an error saying I do not have permission to do that.
Recently, we have come back to play wow. It had been several years for all of us. We are friends IRL. The guild we had has a Guild Leader that has not been on for over 10 years and does not plan on returning. I got the prompt to take over the guild, but received the above error. I am rank 2 in the guild, have my authenticator attached and have been active for over a month (not all in that guild though). We would just create a new guild, but this guild has a member that passed away and we don’t want to leave it.
From what I have read, it could be because I have already purchased a house, it is not related to the guild though. Any advice would be helpful. I have already submitted a ticket but have not had a response to it at this time.
Ticket times are a bit long at the moment. It might be 2-3 days.
That would qualify for a takeover.
Also a good sign.
Yep. All looks good. By what you’ve presented here, you should be qualified to take over.
That’s a possibility. If you abandon it, I believe you can re-create it automatically (i.e. you don’t have to completely rebuild item by item). Give that a try.
It’s not the first time a house has caused wonky things with guilds (and vice versa). I’d try abandoning the house and see what happens. But hopefully a GM will respond soon and help you figure out what’s hanging you up.
Sometimes the forum moderator can also provide some guidance.
That is the most common reason why a qualifying character wouldn’t be able to use the dethrone option that is presented. It might not be, but I want to start with the basics before poking further.
Thank you for responding. I disabled all addons and I have reset the user interface to default settings (all). then logged out and back in and it still stated I don’t have permission to do that.
Just to clarify, because you said you disabled all addons, which can help but it is not the same. You reset using the instructions I provided, by renaming the folders?
You should have had an opening cinematic start when you logged in for the first time after it.
Resetting your UI to default settings can resolve various display and interface issues. Before performing these steps, please temporarily uninstall any addon management software you are using. Addon managers will re-sync the data cleared by these steps.
Completely exit World of Warcraft.
Uninstall any addon managers to make sure they don’t re-add your removed addons.
In the Blizzard Battle.net desktop application, click Options (the cogwheel next to Play button) and select Show in Explorer (Windows®) or Reveal in Finder (Mac®).
Open the World of Warcraft® folder.
Open the folder for the game version you’re troubleshooting (retail, classic_era, or classic)
Rename the Cache, Interface, and WTF folders to CacheOld, InterfaceOld, and WTFOld.
Re-launch World of Warcraft so the changes can take effect.
Edit - You figured it out while I was trying to fix my bullets.
Thank you for typing it out. That was appreciated. I got rid of it all, but I’m going to do it again just in case. These things seem temperamental sometimes.
Yes, I did try that as well, between my two attempts and at the end.
As a last ditch effort. I uninstalled WoW and Battle Net. I reinstalled this morning, tried again and still received the I don’t have permission to do that error.
Wanted to provide an update I got from my ticket. They told me to transfer ownership of my house to someone else. That did not resolve the issue. I even relinquished my plot and that didn’t do it. I bought it back with a different character, and that didn’t do it.
In between all that, I deleted the folders and all that was suggested earlier.
Also, over the last few days, I’ve tried several of my alts that are also rank 2 (not the owner of the plot) and that also did not work.
