Take me back to WOD

In WOD I had a boomkin, spriest, warlock, and warrior all full 710 ilvl pvp gear doing rbgs the entire time I logged on. Once I conquest capped a character I’d move on to the next and conquest cap doing 2v2 arenas and repeat this for a few weeks and I’d have fully pvp geared characters. I didn’t have to step into a dungeon or raid to be relevant in the pvp scene I just did arenas and bgs for conquest. In world pvp only item leveled scaled to be able to massacre a raider out in the world, shouldn’t that make sense? We are pvpers they are raiders. We pvp for gear, they raid for gear. What was wrong with the feeling of accomplishment when you finally got your last price of conquest gear and your character was complete for the season with your enchants and gems socketed.

What I’m getting at is I put way more hours into this game in WOD because I’d have a sense of completion and would move on to another character and ever got bored because I always had an alt that needed gearing. Please take me back to WOD pvp.

Honorable mention… glyphs that impacted your spells in combat

I’d also like to add the world pvp channel. When I’d be waiting for bgs or arenas to pop I would go to the towns and city’s that where under attack.

100% agree. Why do you suppose they changed it into what we have now?

They think that making gear rng is gonna make is play for longer amounts of time when in reality I can’t find motivation to pvp in my favorite game.

Current end game loot system in wow is a complete mess, needs to be brought back in line.

eh, I unsubbed, and dont regret it - what I do regret is that I let it continue for 1 additional month (the 17th) instead of canceling it before the reoccurring charge, in hopes that the game would be fun again with the new patch, but it isnt. same old same old.

level some chars up to max (in my case, 6 120s), gear them up through the same boring process (AH bought items > world quests > some dungeons with a combination of incursions > maybe some arena pieces, and then im near the cap of ilvl. I am doing content I dont particularly want to, but why am I doing that? because…

  1. doing world quests/dungeons/etc is just infinitely less stressful than queueing 2s forever to gear up, and provides equal, if not better rewards.

  2. random BGs as extreme casual content just isnt fun for me anymore (due to a myriad of reasons - class design probably being the biggest one), ontop of it having no reward like it used to (honor gear), which means I have zero incentive to join one.

season 2 is the exact same thing if you’re a pvper - enjoy the grind with no variance whatsoever to it, unless you hop into the new raid I guess, which I have no interest in doing.

I’ll probably come back in 8.2 (I always come back to this game even if I know I probably shouldnt), but until then, I am done. I’ve had no second thoughts about my decision (which is bad, because I’ve only ever felt that way twice in the 11+ years I’ve played this game)

this isnt a “wow, this game sucks post” - if this game made me bitter like some of the people who write their exit letters on the forums, unsubbing would’ve been satisfying in its own rights - but it isnt. I dont want to unsub; I want this game to thrive, and I want to have fun again… im getting to a mindset where I dont “expect” to have fun like I used to - im at a point where im surprised if I do.

sorry for long post, but yeah, even in WoD I felt like I could casually login and enjoy myself, despite how much flack the expansion got.

You literally PvP to get conquest just like you did before.
Same grind that doesn’t require you to do rated gameplay.

Not sure what you’re qqing about.

That’s what I was thinking. Still don’t have to step foot in pve. If you want higher ilvl gear, you can do rated pvp. Wod was one of the worst expansions imo.

The only thing about WoD that was nice, there seemed to be a healthy rotation of players to run rbgs with.
Now I check out the que, and just by posts I don’t bother to try and join. Community is part of the unsatisfied feeling. Overall, the game has come to a stalemate, either they need to do an extraordinary measure to bring the spark back, or it’s continually down.

ah yes, getting conquest to get pre-determined pieces of gears with X set of stats, or Y set of stats. I definitely enjoy the two choices I have, which are…

  1. haste/versa
  2. crit/mastery

…basically, each piece has only 1 stat I want (haste/mastery)

but I have a feeling you’ll answer with “but even when we had vendors, that was still the case!” - uh yeah, it was, but during certain timeframes we had reforging, and in the case of WoD, gear ilvl scaled up to near mythic ilvl for pvp engagements only, which meant that conquest gear was bis for pvp (until legion) and even then it was still top tier unless you had indulged in mythic raiding to target specific stat combos.

besides that, destro’s best azerite trait, Flashpoint, was only on 2 pieces of honor gear last season - it now has one for each slot on sinister gear (surprisingly) but this may still be the case for other specs/classes - so, if for example I am playing survival hunter, and I need 3 pieces of azerite gear with Latent poison… what do I do if the conquest gear doesnt have it? oh yes… I must step into content I normally wouldnt - and to add on to this, some of the best trinkets for pvp (at least 1 slot) have always been locked behind PvE content - this is even moreso the case because blizzard not only has a shortage of creative and good ideas for pvp trinkets, but you now get the medallion effect baseline (if you choose) anyways.

and the icing on the cake is if I were to fall behind 10 weeks worth of conquest caps (happened because pve rewards were better), I need to win around 199 2s games in BFA - was only around 60 games (iirc 56) to cap 10 weeks, post conquest catchup mechanic (which was introduced in mop itself)

the new gearing system is great in the ways you can obtain conquest in multiple ways now, but its awful in the sense that everything is predetermined to the core (whilst still not being anywhere near top tier for PVP ONLY) ontop of it being the slowest conquest grind that WoW has ever seen.

legion templates were fine… WoD gearing system was pretty good - why did blizzard get rid of the good, mutate what was left, and then incorporate it into BFA?

there were probably more players in WoD participating in pvp than BFA tbh - I thought the wod gearing system was pretty good, too - that or templates, both of which I think are fine.(EDIT: meant to clarify LEGION templates - not the abomination we have now) and besides all of that, there were more to classes than there are now.

im not saying wod was a “good” expansion, just that during that expansion I felt like I could log in whenever I want for some casual BGs/arenas, or even wpvp, log out, and not feel like I’ve wasted my time.

That’s what conquest gear in WoD was too. You either get the set piece or you get the non-set piece with different stats.
You chose what was best for what you’re going for out of two pathways.
That’s exactly what you do now too.

Coz fax.

Which doesn’t make the argument redundant. You still have to pick 1 of 2.

And Pvpers were still getting to 385 ilv without having to touch PvE.

Yes, Elite, but god forbid the BG forums have to have an incentive to get better at something!

This has been the case for all of WoW. Vanilla, BC, WoTLK, Cata, WoD all trinkets and rings from PvE were better. In WoD, people were buying fully upgraded crafted rings which were better than PvP rings. Not hard to buy as gold inflation increases as each expansion goes by.

You win 5 games, you get a piece, that’s baseline.
Took more than 5 wins in Cata/WoD to get a single piece.
iirc wins were like 180~ conquest. Rings/Cloaks were 1250, Waist, trinket were 1750 and core pieces were 2250. Heck weapons were 3500.
Now it’s just, 5 wins of Rated or 500 conquest and boom you have a weapon a few hours after 120 in the first season. That never happened in Cata/Wod.

That’s gear design, not the gearing system. Two separate conversations.

Doing BGs for conquest now is faster than it was doing BGs for conquest in Cata/WoD.
Same goes for rated play. Not only that, actually having the chance for gear to drop which wasn’t even a thing in WoD.
You have increased odds.

Yep, their attempt to make people play longer with rng has backfired, both in pvp and pve.

I just keep reading the title of this thread as that evanescence wake up me inside song.

Except PvP should be about skill not gear. We should incentive getting better by giving awesome cosmetic rewards. Instead they reduced cosmetics by combining armour sets. Then anyone playing below 2.1 (which is close to 90% of the people) can go get comparable gear much easier via warfronts/incursions/raiding. How is that incentivizing people to play arenas or even try to get better at them as youre claiming? I can tell you even at 2.1 I did less arenas in bfa than wod because I had to go do warfronts and incursions for a chance at that 370 with the right stats or Titan/war forge.

Not sure where you’re getting this info? I can tell you I got 10 wins last season and would maybe get a chest with some herbs.

And what?!? If you do 2s now it takes 20 wins and if you do 3s it takes 14 wins. How is that faster than WOD? It’s only faster if you random bg.

Not to mention your end conquest gear isn’t max ilvl (to your rating or otherwise). The conquest item even with the increased choice this season still doesn’t guarantee you get to pick what you need. The chest is completely random and is useless repeat all the time. The random drops are lower ilvls and also random so they’re also repeats.

Last season I got 3 upgrades in 10 weeks of play. WOD I got an item every single week. This system is terrible man. RNG is not a success.

Yup my 4 arena buddies and myself did more arenas and BGs in wod than legion or bfa. Particularly bgs, we have barely touched them because of all the other crap like warfronts/islands.

Additionally we all stayed subbed for most of WOD. We all unsubbed after a season and a half of legion. Of my 4 arena buddies, I am the last one standing, two of them logged on last week to tell me they’re done. The other two haven’t logged on in about a month so I’m assuming.

Seriously wod/mop gearing. Please.

I thought everyone hated WoD tho?

Not everyone. Never forget spectral guise, cascade, devouring plague, fear ward, glyphed mb and CoP!

I remember being bored so much that I would queue as a shockadin with a disc priest and play for 20 minute 2s matches. You’d be surprised how many games the enemy team would just quit.
