Sylvanas abandoning the Undead Night Elves

Spoilers from the PTR for Patch 8.3:

Calia Menethil says: Night elf sentinels? Why are you... By the Light!

Lilian Voss says: Many fell at Teldrassil. Some were raised into rage and darkness, turned against their own people. They, too, have been abandoned.
Delaryn Summermoon says: Death is… cold. Even for those who burn.
Derek Proudmoore says: Calia, I know the pain they suffer. The hopelessness. You must do something for them.
Calia Menethil says: We will, Derek. Together.

Just to note, this takes place outside The Bulwark at Tirisfal Glades.

This is curious, since we also had this during the Horde’s Darkshore Warfront introductory questing:

Nathanos Blightcaller says: There is one more asset to acquire. One who resisted... and failed. The Dark Lady was very... specific in her wishes.

I speculate the following:

Sylvanas wanted to break the Night Elves’ hope by burning Teldrassil. As Saurfang said, she failed. She probably was not happy that the Night Elves were not broken, so sought out to raise Undead Night Elves to once again try to break the Night Elves’ hope. This worked out for the Undead Night Elves themselves, specifically Delaryn, who has the following outro when defeated in the Alliance version of the Darkshore Warfront proper:

Delaryn Summermoon yells: Your hope... will fail you...

Yet this did not break the living Night Elves, who fought for Darkshore back, and many showed up at the gates of Orgrimmar itself along with the rest of the Alliance and Horde, some even front row center:

So my guess is that with the Undead Night Elves not leading the the chain reaction breaking of the hope of the living Night Elves that Sylvanas was going for all along, Sylvanas just abandoned the Undead Night Elves same as she abandoned the rest of the Forsaken for not working out for what she wanted.

Though there is still the joke in here somewhere about “If Sylvanas really wanted the Night Elves all dead, why did she keep raising them back up?”

Perpetually gonna think of Dr Evil for every question like this that comes up in the future about these ridiculous plots.

“Scott, ya just don’t get it do ya?”

“You just. Keep. Failing!”

For someone so intensely obsessed with killing hope she’s really bad at it.

She kind of reminds me of that one kid on the playground that talks about his blackbelt but can’t actually fight worth a darn. Then he gets beat up but acts like he chose to lose to spare his opponent.

She raised them to prolong the war, the more war that is being fought the more dead there is

Every time I see Calia Menethil dialogue, I’m reminded of the time I was a kid and dumped like seven Sweet ‘n’ Low packets into my mouth.

She’s just so cloyingly repulsive.

Hmm, that’s another event that fits more in the “Calia Menethil, future leader of an allied race” column.

I’ll continue to hope that we get Voss as the true leader of the Forsaken.

Ah yes, more “tOtAlLy NoT mInD cOnTrOl” level of substance.

LAWL!!

Which part? The part about how Baine showed the courage she lacked? This is the same Voss was laughing through the streets of Boralus as she we slaughtered swaths of Kul Tirins under her orders or the part about how abandoned the undead NE are?

Someone please tell whats going on, do I even want to know? lmao

Not even sure where they’re going anymore. Seeing that in context makes it look like they’re not in fact planning to bring her into the Forsaken fold after all.

Not even being raised into undeath is enough to save night elves from being used as a plot motivator for humans. Albeit undead humans.

Which one Voss or Calia?

I’m assuming Calia, since it is she who gets to show compassion and acceptance of the undead night elves.

Because that is what the Forsaken player base wants, a leader that shows the Forsaken compassion, and acceptance without doing any mean things like dipping gnomes in blight or turning puppies into monsters.

edited: because my first post didn’t sound sarcastic enough.

Calia. Voss walks off saying there’s so much more to do, that doesn’t sound like the kind of talk of someone who was planning to follow Calia.

“Okay so, what was the point of that?” should be BFA’s tagline

Sounds to me like they are setting up an undead Night elf allied race…

As it’s content from 8.3, you might want to label this as a spoiler.

Tyranda gonna off them.

I just thought the undead NEs were canon fodder for Sylvanas’s war in Darkshore since she needed bodies to fight (like pretty much how the Horde was canon fodder for her war in general).

With Delaryn, Sylvanas raised her to prove a point and win their little argument about hope, but she didn’t care about the young nelf beyond that. So…Sylvanas was just being petty here.

From a practical standpoint, Sylvanas probably doesn’t trust that the undead NEs will remain loyal to her in the long run. The HE/BE Dark Rangers have been with her longer and have her trust.

I can’t believe they are in fact playing the “We were abandonded card” here. They were given many chances to stand down and come back again both by Tyrande and Maiev so this “OMG nobody loves me, I’m so sad I need attention from anyone else beside the ones who care for me” theme is riddiculous.
