Sword and Shield dps

2h weapon and shield would make sense for Retribution, it’s unique and is already canon considering AU Yrel did it. The real question would be converting the shield to represent damage instead of defense.

I will say though, doing something like that would make sense for Retribution having Shield of the Righteous baseline in Shadowlands as long as the ability was retooled to be an effective HP spender.

We’d also need Avenger’s Shield, throwing a shield is offense after all:)

I’d even take the appearance of sword and board ret dps. Holy can mog their sword and board into their artifact 2h weapon. Why can’t that concept just go in reverse and mog a 2h into a sword and board?

*sigh * likely coding limitations…

Yes, even if they have to make a 4th spec called Crusader or just gave a talent to prot to dps.
I want Falling Sword.

would certainly be a welcome addition.

For the record, they have not “made it work” for Frost DK’s. AFAIK They just removed the restriction requiring 1H’s but havent actually balanced around it.

Also, 2H frost, while iconic, was never the best spec for DPS, it only scored higher than DW very early into xpacs, when secondary stats and iLvls were low, as soon as you get some decent gear and stats, DW is better.

The equivelent would just give ret the ability to use templars verdict with a 1H, it wont actually scale that well, and your DPS will be trash, but hey if you want to RP as a paladin, go for it.

Why not 2-hander and sheild? Best of both worlds. make it a talent even…

I feel such a thing would belong to priests, and not the knight in plate armor class >.>

I don’t think ret should get avenger’s sheild. But we can indeed start with sheild of the righteous.

I never said they had made it work for Frost, I said if they can(its just a matter of tuning). Besides its irrelevant which one does absolutely more dps, an option is still and options. Or would you prefer they just delete the talent trees all together, and just force you to have the best simed talents. All because of a little dps gain. I know I wouldn’t, because although Crusade is somewhat stronger, Divine Purpose is more fun. And so having an option for different weapon set ups would be no different as having to choose between two talents.

They haven’t made it work for frost yet

Obviously, Shadowlands hasn’t come out yet, but they are at least working on doing so. And they could do the same for this idea as well.

But why? The other Classes at least have some historical precedence. This would just be a brand new feature for… what reason? The others at least fall underneath the unpruning category.

Why Not? there is currently zero melee sword and shield dps users(tanks and healers don’t count). There’s also no 1hander and offhand melee dps spec either, having that would be cool too. I can see it now, three flavors of dps, Retribution, Crusader and Inquisitor.

If your looking for a in game charecter that reflects it. There is ppl saying yrel had at one time held a 2-hand weapon and sheild at the same time.

Turalyon also dw during the final battle in wc2 after anduin lothar fell.

Also Nobundo from alternate Draenor dual wielded when he was still a paladin.
Not that I feel Paladins should dual wield, just pointing that out.

yup, If they make 4th specs, I think there should be a dw spec. but that is not happening any time soon.

I think they should make a dw dps spec for paladins. Call it fanatic or something to that effect but allow paladins to dps dw 1h weapons. Seeing single minded fury for warriors come back makes me want this even more.

Fanatic is a good name. I like zealotry too…

Agreed i can see either name for a dw dps spec.

Except 2h frost doesn’t actually work. It’s an illusion of choice. It only works in a sense that you can use one with all abilities in SL, but it’s a mess mechanically and doesn’t actually fit. It’s a puzzle piece forced into position.

Single minded fury also comes with its problems with loot, which frost will have those same problems. With frost you will always want 1h weapons from your personal loot table and if 2h weapons are added to it then you waste weapon drops.

Doesn’t work yet, doesn’t mean it never will.

And there will be times its not a waste too

Also Ret having the ability to 1hander and shield dps would means not having to collect different weapon for prot and holy. This would be the same for DKs, as a 2hander can be used by all 3 specs, making swaps easier.

No, it’s always a waste. It’s not a numbers issue or tuning, it’s a complete mechanical difference. They even made Killing Machine more important and DW gets 277% more procs than 2h. Just swapping weapons, even if you get a higher I’ll, DW would still be better.

SMF for warriors doesn’t have this issue, it’s going from DW to DW. But the way the loot system works now because people complained about master loot, is going to cause problems. If you want to TG you could just get a ton of 1h weapons, or 1 1h and 1 2h where you can use neither. Ilvl stuff causes issues too where if it’s an ilvl upgrade for you, you can’t trade it even if it’s crap for you but someone else can use it.

The not having to collect a different weapon for one spec when the other 2 use a certain weapon set is not an argument for something. The response is quit being lazy. Quit thinking everything should be handed to you or you shouldn’t have to do the bare minimum of work for your spec. Do you know how many times I ran the ToC normal 5 man for one of the best armor proc trinkets in wrath? I lost count.

The only argument here is “I want it so it should be” even if it causes problems. People were hyped about 2h frost returning and it turned out to be hot garbage because the mechanics favor DW since the offhand procs things as well.

Would sword and board ret have any mechanics differences? No. It’s going from one weapon to one weapon. 2h would have higher ability damage, 1h would auto faster.
