Okay just when I thought I couldn’t come up with a stupider question, here we go.
I apologize if this has been asked before.
I like to quest using my lock in Destro spec. and hunter in BM spec.
But I prefer to PVP in Demo and Mark. specs.
I hate having to go and spend more money to change the essences? each time I want to change specs.
I know at one point you could have two sets of gear, I get that, but can you change your essences, like to a destro spec, save that spec as one set of gear, then go in a change your spec to demo and change your essences accordingly and make that your second “set of gear” does that make sense? I hope so because I am almost confusing myself here.
Your essences change with each spec. The traits on the gear do not.
So, if I want to pvp a little and change my spec to mark. yet the essences are still set for BM, I will need to change the essences every time?
You might be sol, on pure dps specs I think it stays the same. You need to go to a rested area and switch essences around.
Traits on the armor pieces never switch, they stay the same.

If I am BM specced I usually go to the dude that helps you switch essences.
So I switch to Mark. and then hand over my three pieces “resetting” each one, then make the appropriate selections for Mark. spec.
Then when I am done, I change my spec back to BM for questing and again head back to that dude that I hand over my three pieces again and then make the appropriate selections for BM spec.
Each time I change the essences’ to match the spec it costs money and change enough it costs a ton!!
I think you’re confusing essences and traits.
Essences are the Major and Minor powers on your Heart of Azeroth; Traits are the abilities on your Head, Shoulder, and Chest pieces.
Your traits on your gear will not change when you switch specs. Your essences on your Heart or Azeroth should change when you switch specs though. (Though as Heretic said, that might not be the case for pure DPS classes, I just know it does that if you switch from a Healer to a DPS)
If you want to change your traits on your gear, you will need to go to the Azerite Reforged every time. Your traits won’t save based on spec. If you want different traits based on spec, you’ll need to get a different set of Azerite gear.
Yep, that does clear it up a bit, the essences was my concern.
I had noted that when I switched from BM to Mark. and vice versa my essences didn’t change, same with my lock. and paying every time to switch them back to be more in accordance with the current spec is way to pricey for me.
