I’ve been using a keyfob for years but it seems to be breaking down and takes awhile to display the code. If I switch to app-based authentication I assume I need to remove/inactivate the keyfob from the account first?
Correct, yes. If your keyfob is still working, you should be able to deactivate it yourself. Then you’ll be able to load up the app and setup the new mobile authenticator.
Make sure you save your Serial Number and Restore Code somewhere safe, in case you need to reset/change devices in the future.
Thank you. I assume you mean the Serial Number and Restore Code for the key fob, although I’m not aware of any ‘restore code’ unless it’s something received during the switching process.
No, the Serial Number and Restore Code are part of the mobile authenticator. Basically, with those two numbers you can clone your authenticator to a new device… So it’s important to keep them for backup reasons, but also keep them safe for security reasons ![]()
You can have the same mobile authenticator on several devices at the same time. I have mine on 3 different devices, so if one dies I have 2 other backups.
