SV BLASTS in M+!

Because its really fun to play and I feel it has a unique style of guerilla warfare and hit-and-run tactics that I really find engaging.

Also, how much less effective is SV really? Especially the content I push; M+ and PvP.

In Mythic+ SV offers S-Tier AoE damage and at unfortunately middling-tier(at best) Single Target damage.

However, SV can dispel enrage/ magic effect via Tranq Shot. Hunter can bring Bloodlust. A plethora of field control and party utility with Binding Shot and Tar Trap, good sustain w Exhilaration, strong mobility w Disengage and Harpoon, Misdirect and an Immunity. Also hard CC.

Granted, SV doesn’t bring anything unique the other Hunter specs don’t bring as well AND theres the fact that it’s harder to fir them into party comp as a melee.

Despite this, i wouldn’t consider them ineffective in the slightest as far as Mythic + is concerned.

In PvP they have numerous strengths as well, and are likely the premier pvp hunter spec.

Also, worth mentioning that any player worth their salt plays the class and not the spec, so situations where SV truly wont fit into or just wont work, I still have MM and Beasty.

I’m fairly sure our pets can’t dispel magic effects. That was given back directly to the Hunter with tranquilizer shot.

And all your perks you indicated can be done on RANGE. And Range is arguably more effective than melee. There’s fewer Range Classes. Group usually needs more Range.

And melee is somewhat overcrowded. Your competition to join group is not me, a Range Hunter. Your competition is against other melees which are more popular. When you look for DPS to fill slots for our group, you would see Demon Hunters, DK’s, Paladins, Druids, Warriors, Monks, Rogues and… what? A survival Hunter? I bet you most of the time, they wont choose the Survival Hunter with too many other melee options.

Ahh, thanks for the heads up. My info is slightly dated lol, haven’t played Hunter since WoD.

Updated post to reflect.

Oh, you’re not. Many, like yourself, do want to see it return. The preferred way to do it would obviously be as a 4th spec, which makes the biggest obstacle the devs themselves and somehow convincing them that it should be done.

Thanks @Lazyguide for the link. The two concepts Lazy linked, mine and his, are just two ways for how it could be done.

Hopefully the devs decide to go back on their decision to remove it, and as a result, bring it back in the form of a modern version with even more depth and theme-accurate fanatasy.

Actually I have been brought because I am SV. They need Hunter abilities but also SV has the lowest CD on interrupts. Also we bring other abilities that hunters have.

I wish Blizz separate us more, but for the keys I have done, that is what I brought. That and the Wildfire AOE which is also not caped.

Uncapped AoE damage is a helluva drug.

Uncapped AoE with what what utility hunters have is good reason to bring for keys.

Raid spots I feel would be a different story.

But again, that’s why I play a class and not a spec. I’d gladly go MM or BM as content demands, however, when I have my druthers and the opportunity is available, you’ll see me Surviving.

Probably because if you wanted to play a melee, there’s just better options than a pure dps spec with only one spec for melee. What happens when SV isn’t so good, or some changes come along thag you hate - but you enjoy melee dps. Total reroll? Whereas a rogue has two other specs to switch to.

Most people thay play a hunter want to be a ranged dps.

I agree SV is fun to mess around with from time to time. But if you really wanted to play melee, there’s better options with more diversity throughout their specs.

I disagree. Well, I guess that obvious from the thread title.

But to expand a bit, I disagree with the “lack of diversity” aspect that you highlighted in your response.

For me, it’s an attraction to the class to have the diversity of 2 ranged specs and one melee spec.

It means that times like now when Survival is tuned well enough, I can really enjoy it in the areas that is excels(currently M+ as well as PvP).

I also have 2 other spec flavors to choose from to adapt a range playstyle.

And heck, currently BM and SV both have similar enough stat prio that I can for the most part switch freely between them. Only have to switch out my leggo and weapon.

I consider it a perk of the class that I can switch between melee and ranged.

In fact, I enjoy all 3 Hunter specs.

If I didn’t enjoy all 3 specs, I likely wouldn’t play it. I would never play a class just for one spec, that’s kinda setting yourself up for disappointment imho.

Why would someone ever play SV hunter, or take them anywhere, when outlaw Rogue’s exist?

Most classes are squishy in Mythic. They have Turtle immunity, Constant 10% Leech, an instant 30% heal on a (talented) 1.5 minute CD, can drop aggro with Feign Death, Misdirect, Strong CC/Traps, Multiple Interrupts between Muzzle and Intimidation. They have a Lust, a pet that can tank a few moments if your tank dies and very strong AOE, one of the only uncapped AoE ability’s in the game… Survival is great.

But most importantly they are FUN.

Have you played a druid? 30% heal basically whenever you want. AND renewal which is exactly instant 30% hp every 1.5 minutes.

Ret also has an immunity but it doesn’t stop them from doing damage

Any spec can get gear upgrades. 10% leech is 209.8 leech, that’s reasonable.

DPS Warlocks, Warriors, Shaman, DKs, Monks, Priests, and Paladins should not be squishy if played well. No matter how well you play SV, you will be squishier than an average Ret Pally.

Aggro management is nice but with a good tank, you shouldn’t have to worry about that. Still, use misdirection before pulls because it helps and it’s free.

Muzzle should have a larger range, especially during eagle windows.

Intimidation is nice. It’s like the pally and war stun.

Good groups will have at least one RDPS. And the first RDPS spot will go to a frost mage or ele shaman.

I wish  even tenacity pets will get one-shot in a 15.

Again, I wish.

You’re gosh darn right! I was once 47th m+ SV in the world. I want to play more of it but it needs help badly if it wants to compete with other specs.

It is an ancient theme, that when God grants the world a gift, it is hated and killed.
