Suspensions without details?

Game: Battle.net support

Topic: Appeal World of Warcraft penalty

Description: Violation: Abusive Chat Your fellow players reported you for abusive language multiple times. Suspension expires on: 2024 June 16 13:24 UTC

It must of been pretty bad for a full one week suspension yet you didn’t bother telling me what was said? How am I supposed to know NOT to say something similar again in the future if I do not know exactly what was said? That’s like punishing your kid for a week but not telling him what he was punished for.

Please email me exactly what I said in quotes that was so ungodly so I can visit my local priest and repent. I do not want to be condemned to hell for “repeated abusive” language towards my fellow humans. Please help me save my soul.

Estimated response time: 24 hours

They stopped doing it because the program was pulling lines unrelated to what was reported. I think they stopped doing that about a year ago. Maybe a blue can put some light on it, but I do have a sense of what was said from this post.

Even then, a week means that a warning wasn’t heeded and they took action.

A blue canbshed some light in abit when they get to there computer.

Abusive language can be anywhere from masked language derogatory comments towards someones intelligence frame of mind alot of this can stem from bg for most people or chat in general.

Considering this is a week this more then likely isnt your first penalty.

I did not receive a warning, and I’m guessing it was in reference to an LGBTQ transgender discussion. But no bad words were mentioned. It was more about proudly living the lifestyle. But whatever… still not sure. It’s a stupid way for punishing people. I’m not arguing whether it was warranted or not. I just want to know what was specifically said. I still can’t pinpoint what was so bad a week was given.

I think the intention is to feed you lines that might have been reported, but it fell short. The suspension means that unfortunately this was not the first time you fell afoul of the chat rules. They used to do pure silences that expanded, but switched back to suspensions some time ago.

Chat violations simply need to break the rules. They do not have to be directed at anyone.

Well, you seemed to have hit the trifecta here.

Politics, religion AND sex. Also, length of a suspension in most cases has little to do with severity of the infraction, more so, how many you’ve had on the account.

Just FYI - those do tend to double with subsequent infractions.

Well, the good news is when I do decide to quit for good, I’ll just spam really bad stuff in chat and get a perma ban so I don’t have any urge to come back. Or after a 30 day ban I’ll realize the game is not worth it LOL.

Maybe I’ll recommend that to a few people as a way to quit and make sure you don’t come back to the game.

Or you could play nice and if you dontbhave anything nice to say dont say anything at all.

They don’t action base on how bad something was, it’s base on how many account actions you had. So ya did got a warning beforehand before they gave you an account action.

Yea, that’s fine. But I’d like the details so I know not to say it again. Some stuff is borderline and you are unsure if it’s really bad or not. It might not seem bad to you, but some uptight person might find it offensive and report you. That’s the issue for me. Again, I’m not trying to fight the suspension. Just want more info. I’m going out of town for 3 days so the suspension isn’t really that impactful.

Folow orlyia advce avoid politcs sex and religion no place in wow.

All the suspensions are probably why I see nobody talking in any chats nowadays. Anything someone says is now lumped into being offensive, including crude attempts at humor. Most players only pretend to be offended just so they can report you. An inverse way of trolling I suppose… It’s one of the reasons the game sometimes feels dead or full of bots. You see all these people in town but nobody saying anything to anyone. They all might as well be bots. I’m beginning to think they are.

People play wow to get away from the real world not to be dragged into topics like this keep it to fb and not bother players that want to play with garbage like this.

What you are forgetting is that reporting alone does not get you actioned. Blizzard GM’s investigate the report and will either apply a penalty if required or they won’t.

It doesn’t matter if it’s one report, or several.

If you didn’t do anything wrong, it is unlikely you’ll be actioned.

Or you could just grow up and follow the rules like the majority of players can.

Okay, here’s a real question.

Since my account is suspended for a week, does that mean I won’t be charged playtime for a week? Yea, I know the $4 or so won’t break my account, but that’s $4 I’m paying for something I’m not playing.

And it wasn’t a voluntary choice.

Actually, you voluntarily broke our code of conduct - so yes, yes it was.

And no, your sub isn’t suspended - nor would someone with a verified suspension get time back.

Maybe the game should add a “chat test” tab where you type a comment and it tells you whether or not the message is against the ToS so you know not to type the “abusive” comment in other chat tabs for trolls to report?

That’s a solution in search of a problem that doesn’t need solving.

Or you could not post what to a normal and reasonable person could be seen as offensive in any of those topics.

Whether or not you intended to ‘troll’, you were - and I believe you knew it at the time just based on the things said - and the things you’ve said in this thread.

You don’t have to use profanity to be offensive. In polite company, those three topics are always landmines, best to avoid.

I’m not sure what kind of ‘chat test’ you want things to go through. Even profanity can get around filters, it takes a human making good judgement calls to adjudicate trolling.

I believe I’ve answered your questions and this thread is becoming decreasingly productive.

I wish you all the best.
