Survival vote?

Yes, I remember the WoD Talent, it was a choice. At the very beginning of Legion, Marksman had no choice, the spec did not have pets.
Some months into the Expac, pets were given back to MM, along with Traps.

This isn’t wholly accurate.

In Legion alpha, MM couldn’t even summon pets — and Blizzard could NOT keep MM players alive (not to mention the outcry from pet-loving MM hunters like myself), so by Legion beta, MM hunters could summon pets again.

I played the entirety of Legion with a pet on my MM hunter.

But yes, you’re right about the traps. Both BM and MM hunters didn’t have any trap at all from patch 7.0 to 7.1.5. A full year…

As one of the people who whined on my main a fair bit about the loss of pets altogether for MM, I cared somewhat less about the traps, oddly enough (I still miss the net-on-disengage talent from Pandaria though, it was funny in duels). Frost is still a neat CC to have back though.

But losing pets permanently was just bad and some fantasies for hunter with pet worked better, imo, with MM than BM (e.g. elven falconer stuff that you could see with Alleria’s statue and blood elves in BC)

u wanna know why ranged survival is never coming back? because all the other classes will be near empty again.

Ranged SV was never that popular outside of maybe one tier each in Mists and Warlords, at this point the delusional pining for a spec that existed all of two expacs isn’t healthy

It was consistently popular for a period of almost 4 expansions from when it first got Explosive Shot in 3.0 to when it was gutted in 6.2 in the leadup to Legion.

Lying or misinformed: which is it?

Well at least we finally have an admission that RSV wasn’t actually a thing until Wrath except to buff MM builds

yea thats just wrong but ok

Nice attempt at being dishonest about what was actually said, but in fact Survival was still a ranged spec before WotLK. It was just not very popular because it had very little going for it. In BC you brought one to a raid for Expose Weakness but generally BM was better PvE and PvP DPS. In Classic it was the CC/utility PvP tree but it was still generally better to just be MM in both PvE and PvP.

WotLK put SV on the map by making sensible, iterative, and exciting additions that meaningfully built on the spec’s identity as well as the class identity because at the end of the day Legion class developers are far worse at their jobs than their predecessors. That’s why we now have broken, half-baked specs all over the place held together with copious borrowed power while Blizzard struggles to address tuning issues with anything more than lazy blanket percentage buffs/nerfs every few months.

Well… sorta? Like, the modern spec didnt exist till MOP, and prior to that all hunters had melee weapons.

In that case, Its a ranged spec now. It does most of its damage from range and carries a melee weapon, just like it did before MoP.

Wasn’t there a Melee slot as well as a Ranged on the Character page?

Yes, its funny you should mention that. This wasnt unique to hunters.

This just in, a month later SV has the highest damage in the class and has one of the best damage profiles in the game for M+ yet remains the least-played Hunter spec by a mile.

How weird. When Ranged SV did good damage it could be the most popular spec in the entire game. When melee SV does good damage it still struggles to see good representation let alone more than the other Hunter specs.

It’s almost like… A switch from ranged to melee is a much bigger change than from one ranged to another

Isn’t this thread about survival? Why would Melee BM make any sense in that context? I must’ve missed something.

If that’s really true, then that kind of negates the original post that says they don’t want to get rid of the melee version of the spec. I certainly don’t, I love the way Survival plays right now and wouldn’t change anything about it from a playstyle standpoint.

Nah, I don’t think so. Why would it?

No it doesn’t.

Most of those people are more than happy to get it back as a 4th spec option for the class, rather than as a replacement to an existing spec.

I wouldn’t mind survival being ranged again as long as we get a new melee hunter spec. I want to be able to use staves and spears on my hunter

Same, I’m against reverting the class but a 4th spec is fine if it plays true to the old spec if there is a big push for it.

No. Hunters dont need another spec. What your looking for is called Marksmen.
