Funny how at a high level this describes BM as well.
To be clear, you’re arguing that there are rare situations where SV can use its high ranged capability to make up for not being able to stay in melee range and because of that melee players don’t want to play it because it’s not “zug zug” enough.
No, it’s not unpopular because of additional capabilities it has. It’s simple: Hunters don’t want to play melee and melee don’t want to play Hunters. The class is heavily based on ranged combat so the Venn diagram overlap of people who want to play a Hunter and people who want to play melee is narrow.
Pugging with SV Hunter for M+ sucks. People will expect you to be ranged and they’d rather have someone else as melee. However, I did have no problem joining a guild to be a melee dps.
It’s clear from the start that the devs have no idea what to do with this spec. Remember in Legion where you have to check for moknathal and mongoose bite charges for FotE phase while masterfully placing explosive and steel traps. All the while trying to combo your wildfire into either mb spam or kc spam. And I’m pretty sure we had another bs grenade there on the mix too and a spitting (low res) cobra on-CD skill.
SV is more or less streamlined now but it is still not fun when placed in group content. And not enough “fantasy theme” on class gameplay that makes me wanna stick to it like the other least popular specs when they’re weak (Brew, Feral, Demo, Outlaw).
people would rather cry about it being changed from range to melee than play survival and see its a fun spec. every time i play my hunter i start at mm or bm but i always end up at survival cause the other 2 specs get boring
I’ve really only seen one person cry like that. We all know who. I’m playing survival and really enjoying it. Who cares what other people play? I’m actually kind of drawn to the non-meta personally. Who wants to be another meta clone?
In fact you can fight in melee range as BM right now.
There are always exceptions to the rule. That’s why SV has a few players and not 0 players.
Mostly ranged combat.
This isn’t just a matter of people not trying it. I’d wager most people who play Hunter have tried Survival at some point. People just prefer to be ranged, which is reasonable and makes sense.
Ion came forward and said they were aware it would be dead even before it introduced. They created it for players who were just starting in Legion and for players who wanted something new.
It was not intended for a big a win only to get more attention for the expansion.
