Support for Covenant Restrictions

Even outside of pugging, as others have noted, if you play across roles and content types - the covenant system will be punishing for those that enjoy playing above a casual level. People like Tettles and Dratnos have even commented on this and how the issues will impact people well below the top 5% of players.

I feel like it’s worse than just restricting. It feels outright malicious and punishing.

If it was a free to play game, ok - but we’re paying a subscription for this kind of system? On top of all the other things that fit in a f2p game better?

Honestly the whole system seems messy and unpolished.

I think I’ll just wait a couple patches to play shadowlands. Either the system works fine, or they’ll work out the kinks into something more appealing.

It’s not like there are any tangible advantages to buying the game or playing at launch. Anything I would be doing would be invalidated by the next raid teir with plenty of catchup gear regardless.

Because a game where you can change to any talent, covenants, set RUINS the RPG aspects of the game, which is building a character from scratch and fighting enemies using the build you have created.

Not basing your build around the enemies.

Stop acting like the victims, one side is gonna lose on this fight and it is about preferences and the devs are going to the RPG heavy direction

You can just imagine a WoW player playing DnD which devs probably do, and the WoW player suddenly has to fight a fire dragon and are like “let me switch my entire build to deal with that boss as well as all my previously chosen spells to something more anti dragon”

I play and enjoy this game from an RPG mindset - and other people being able to change talents, covenants, etc. doesn’t impact my gameplay and enjoyment of how I RP in WoW at all.

Others having choice doesn’t diminish my value in making personal RP choices with my friends, guildees, and community members.

This is flawed - because this literally ISN’T DnD. Gamers that enjoy WoW content in various ways play the game and many of those players wouldn’t play DnD because of the lack of pace and options available.

Rping=/=enjoy rpg games for their rpg elements.

More like disrespectful and punitive.

I don’t disagree about finding a good group to play with. But if I come into raid night with a covenant choice that hurts my performance relative to others, I’m just letting those folks down. This is true at any level of play, and can be even more impactful in groups that aren’t elite players who are better able to overcome the difference.

If you want to play D&D nobody’s stopping you. WoW is a different game, allowing for more freedom of choice, because not everyone cares about RP life. There’s a reason only specific servers are designated RP.

This isn’t D and D.

Go play that if you want too. In fact iirc there is a promising looking single player dnd game coming out soon.

Exactly this. Ralph and his ilk just keep trying to push a DnD style of game onto the WoW population.

Saw this on another thread.

This can’t be stated enough.

It can be both.

Yes God forbid I want the best I can have for the content I am doing at the time . God forbid I want to find fun in how I want to play and not find fun in how others want to have their’s by me being miserable.

Uh huh How many times have we heard this one

Well, yes, but also no. While it made them available for purchase you still have to grind for and obtain them on alts that you wanted to use them on.

And we know that’s never going to happen. Just look at talents that haven’t been touched since BfA launched and have a 99+% pick rate.

See also, the March 2018 Q&A:

  • The team needs to do better at making primary stats stronger than secondary stats in BfA.
  • Item level should generally tell you if an item is an upgrade.
  • Items that are 20 or 25 item levels higher in Legion were sometimes not an upgrade, which is a bad thing.
  • You shouldn’t have to run sims to find out of items are an upgrade.
