Suggestions/Ideas to Modernize Random BG Matchmaking

BLUF:
-I think Blizzard just needs to update their matchmaking system. I am not talking about MMR, but like solo Qers only match with solo Qers. Additionally, players who play in parties would have a separate Q, that solo Q people could opt into, maybe for extra rewards/currency (or because people in premade groups tend to care more about winning, and by Qing into that bracket they will have better games). In my opinion, they really just need to split up solo Q people and people who play in parties.

Argument against Premades:
-I think a lot of people like to play a variety of classes/specs and are more casual players. Some players do not have a high skill mastery of the classes they play. Sometimes they give up after they lose the first team fight. However, this issue is exacerbated when you Q into a group of 5+ players with comms and who are more coordinated than a bunch of random players who have never met each other with varying skill levels. There definitely is a distinct advantage that should be addressed when one team is random and the other is not.

Argument for Premades:
-I can understand wanting to play with a premade group. It is social, you’re playing with friends, and sometimes you grow tired of losing because you have a couple of players who do not want to put in any effort or give up after they lose the first team fight. Premades are pretty much a guaranteed win. And people like winning. Being unkillable in a BG and blowing people up is fun. Plus, it is unfair to deny people the ability to play with their friends, and if they have complete mastery over their spec and gameplay mechanics compared to a random player who does not, then they deserve to win.

Conclusion:
-So, I think Blizzard should to modernize their matchmaking system by creating a new solo Q bracket and allowing solo players to Q into group matches. It will bring some balance back without rewarding bad players, but instead solo queuers will have better matches and satisfaction. I believe this is a win-win scenario.

Gaps:
-I understand there is BG Blitz, which is basically solo Q, but rated.

-I have heard there is an issue with Q syncing, but I am not sure if this is a legitimate issue or made up.

Notes:
-This is a difficult issue because Q times would have a high probability to increase, however I believe something should be done.

-For examples of how to change matchmaking, look at Overwatch, HoTS, LoL.

-I actually do not believe Blizzard will change anything, ever. It just is not a priority or even viewed as an issue by them IMO. Which I think is a little unfortunate.

So what is everyone’s thoughts/suggestions? My intent is to just open up communication and spark conversation about what appears to be a controversial topic.

Blizz definitely needs to improve matchmaking.

  • groups/premades should be matched against other groups/premades (easiest way might be separate solo queue and group queue)
  • even number of heals (and probably tanks for epic BGs)
  • BG doesn’t start until both sides have equal numbers, preferably full teams

^The above wouldn’t be foolproof, but those are the basic changes needed.

100% support better matchmaking. While some q-sync premade advantages may be difficult/impossible for pugs to overcome but anything that would close the gap would be good.

I would personally be fine with this idea. But if you seperated the queue’s, premades groups would just die out. It’s no different than what happened to twinks when blizzard seperated the queue’s of those who stop their exp gains.

Another idea would be to reduce total amount of players in a bg premade to just 3, and limiting the amount of premades on either side. As it stands a 5 man premade in a WSG is equal to a 20 man sync community in AV/IOC ( in a 15 man bg it would be the equivalent of 13 players syncing in a epic bg). 5 mans have way too much influence on a match so reducing it to 3 would allow them to play with their friends but reduce the ability to completely dominate the direction of a bg.

I agree that random BG should have some kind of matchmaking, just like every quick play mode that exists in every other game nowadays. Unfair matchups is likely why PVP is so hard to get into. Who wants to lose for weeks until you’re finally better than the bottom of the barrel to finally win some? PVP is a pyramid scheme

Bring back unranked blitz from DF.

I wonder why Premades would die out… can’t stomp on pug groups anymore I guess.

This would be a good test imo but no doubt players that pre dominantly premade will have issue with this.

As requested.
