Suggestion: Permanently delete characters

It isn’t.
I can still restore a paladin I made in Cataclysm and deleted around level 58.

hmmm…oh REAAAAALLY :star_struck:
Wife deleted a character i spent a ton of gold on for her.
Undelete eh?

As long as it fits this time table :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyhow, I appreciate Blizzard providing a forum to offer suggestions. My intention wasn’t to engage in discourse to justify my opinion, but to only share a function I would like to see in the game. I’m removing myself from the conversation since I already expressed the opinion and don’t see any value in belaboring the point.

I’ll reinforce to those asking, I am not overly concerned about how it functions now. I’m an organized individual and my organization extends to my WoW experiences. I want to purge characters, permanently, that I do not intend to play. To the naysayers, I accept your own opinions, but I am surprised at the passion some have exhibited for being against a fairly simple suggestion.

To the Blizzard employee(s) monitoring this forum, thank you for taking the time to read my post and consider the suggestion.

Your suggestion is not as simple as you are making it sound, while having many negative effects.

This is why I suggested you may want to tailor your idea to being able to organize your deleted character list. Opting to hide, shuffle them, change their listing order. This doesn’t have the same negative effects on others the delete option will.

oh yeah…it was a DH and she ran it thru a lot of legion content.
Have to have her see if its still showing.

Yeah I was going to mention the same thing. There is no positive for them to do this and potential negatives. It the industry it is called “a solution looking for a problem”.

Before I bow out, I wanted to respond. You’re general idea is accurate, I want to clean it up myself; however, I do not have OCD. I only want to state that because it would be an unkind sentiment to purport since there are people that actually have OCD and possibly struggle with it.

Because it bothers you.

no…same here. Dont have diagnosed OCD or anything. More just dont like not having control of something i want to ‘fix’.

dont see why you’re all jumping on the OP, hes making an easy to implement suggestion that doesnt bother anyone else. I, too, have chars I created out of curiosity and have no interest in ever recovering. But then again, that sums up pretty much all of the ones deleted atm. I sometimes delete my max lvl alliance chat out of spite, but then restore him cus blizzard always makes achievements that require both factions

Yeah, I had two people today alone ask for some (what they called) easy to implement changes to the product I work on. On of these would require a complete reworking of how our product works and the other would require dozens of man hours to implement.

Except again it could. There is always a potential for a bad actor getting access to your account. Could someone’s visiting brother-in-law decide it would be hilarious to permanently delete their wow toons? What about a compromised account? Cleaning up something that is so rarely accessed like this has no benefits to justify the work and can very easily create far more work later on.

Nope, because customer service and user retention.

You THINK you would, but they know you’ll restore and then keep subbing.

This is a non-issue if I ever saw one

I’d at least like the option to hide characters in that list. On my main realm, I have a pile of old characters I leveled, boosted, transferred, etc, that I never ended up sticking with…Even if I look at the number of times I started a DH and gave it a few levels. Now, when I can recover a character, I have a multi-page list, some of which have the same name.

That being said, I know I’m in the small percentage of people that have that many deleted toons or is that nit-picky about keeping the list clean. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think that small percentage would likely be less than 100 ppl. I have never even tried to restore a character I deleted because why? I can’t fathom why anyone would need to be doing this so much.

And actually this is a strange thing to even put in a thread with the topic permanently deleted characters - if you are having problems restoring characters wouldn’t you have more problems if you permanently deleted them.

I once tried to level a shadow priest but deleted that character in the mid level 20s.

The deleted character restoration tool exists to protect players from having their account wiped clean by someone who maliciously gained access to their account by any means. Adding a way to permanently purge a character that is within player control would completely undermined the purpose of the entire feature.

I deleted my Hunter early in BFA because I had too many characters, then un-deleted them at the end of BFA because I had nothing to do.

If there’s a timer, it’s an absurdly long one.

This is GD, people will fight hard against any simple suggestion meant to improve the game.
