I know some players might have regret over permanently deleting a character, however, I’d really like the option to clean up my account by permanently deleting and purging deleted characters.
The current policy reads:
Currently there is no way for you to permanently delete characters. Depending on character level, though, some characters are permanently purged from the system after a period of time. Once they are purged, characters will no longer be visible on the character restoration feature in game.
I would appreciate an option to purge characters that I never intend to restore and would like to have purged from my character deleted list. Blizzard could implement multiple warning messages that the character cannot be restored even by putting in a ticket; it could be made clear to players the character is gone permanently and forever. I’d like to tidy up deleted character list and rid myself of certain characters that were made just to briefly test out a class or see a race.
It is a relatively simple notion that is easy to understand. I have deleted characters that I want permanently purged. I do not want the option to restore them ever. I want to purge the characters I don’t care for, forever. It is a suggestion for my own personal preferences.
If it is on a timer, it’s a long one. I’ve had a hunter in the 90s level range sitting in my deleted section for about 3 years now. I think the purge time only applies to low level characters, perhaps?
For sure, my suggestion is not a problematic issue for game play and user experience. It is only an organizational preference I have for managing my account. Perhaps this isn’t the best forum to offer the suggestion, but I still wanted the opportunity to offer the suggestion.
You have a better chance of suggesting a way to organize your deleted character list being implemented.
Having an option to hide/shuffle/reorganize the list.
From Blizzard’s POV this would be a change that doesn’t have any gameplay/user fix value. But it would ultimately increase their workload because it will cause more petitions. Not many I gather, but it will still be more. I don’t see them changing something like this which would have long term negative effects without a stronger positive.
Free up some server space maybe? Instead of keeping useless data forever for no reason.
Just apply the 30 days (or whatever it is) confirmation period to all deleted characters instead of checking if it’s a low level character or high level character.
The server space required to keep deleted character info is negligible. And if it ever actually did become a problem they’d most likely just implement a drop off. Right now per
Any non DH over lvl 50 is infinitely kept and theoretically can be restored. If server space for deleted characters every became an issue, this is what they would most likely tackle first.
You also have to keep in mind that they are going to be hesitant about implementing a perm delete option because of the possibility of compromised accounts.
Either by hacking, some friend finding out/knowing your info, angry significant other, etc.
They want to be in position to fix a deleted character that is not the account holder’s fault.
