For those who don’t know, the source of the problem is that they broke the xfer tool from Classic to TBC and, PERHAPS (take this with a grain of salt), reading between the lines from Classic to WotLK and TBC to WotLK.
Here’s the post
So here’s what I’d honestly suggest:
#1.) Restore character backups. #2.) Copy the problem to a test server #3.) Continue working on the tool to xfer characters there.
THIS SOUNDS LIKE a problem with the tool or script you guys are using that needs more work. Live servers with this length of downtime just isnt customer friendly.
We get that the maintenance was TECHNICALLY PLANNED, but the place/way/manner you guys post with got messed up some how.
At this stage, a lot of people are mad/unhappy and as a Server Admin goes, that’s something you should be taking into account. Yes, Server Admins get the brunt of stress and blame when things go wrong.
Its about knowing when you have to cast that battle rez or run back to the instance.
You know what though, I wonder since they’re removing the cloning feature if it subsequently deleted every character in TBc that was brought over through cloning.
So, I’ll admit, I consume very little Blizzard news these days. They’ve been off my radar for a number of reasons. I went back and re-read the announcement post and didnt see them saying they would simply be upgrading the servers. I heard some chatter, but would love to read more on it if you know where I can off the top of your head.
Just now, I am relying on my knowledge having had worked in the gaming industry and in the server admin field and now running these sorts of operations as a project manager these days.
These situations gnawl at me when I think of a company like Blizzard who has been working on converting to a PMI (Project Management Institute’s best guides and practices) and that we are seeing a complete fail stemming from whatever this project was.
I don’t claim to know all the inside baseball at Blizzard TODAY, but I knew a good chunk of it 5-10 years ago. Many people have been joking that this feels like Blizzard Problems from 15+ years ago and it REALLY DOES.
Have you played in the last 48hrs? Last night ran a SH , They literally broke a npc there which stays in combat and you can’t target it/kill it. Wasn’t a unique occurrence either, another player mention it was broken his previous run. I’ve also seen people saying that even green levels are not getting xp/hurting the group. This is just two instances that isn’t ZA. There’s more.
Anti boosting measures are good on paper but we should have known blizz would muck it up.
not promoting boosting, just wish blizz would have found a better method or at least TESTED IT
