Suggested Professions for Paladin Alt

My main is a Mage with Engineering and Tailoring, and I plan to keep those going into Wrath. I have only one max level alt, and I suspect that will remain the case in Wrath. It’s a Paladin with Mining (maxed) and Enchanting (only about 285 or so).

I plan to keep Mining to support my Mage’s Engineering. My question is whether I should continue to level Enchanting or would it be better to drop it for something else.

I plan to play the Paladin, though mostly casually tanking dungeons and perhaps some BGs. I was thinking of Blacksmithing for fun and gear, but I suspect that may be too expensive for what I might get out of it. Maybe keep it simple with Skinning? I’d go Herbalism but I’m concerned about being able to see only one more at a time.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

I always recommend enchanting for paladin tanks. You’re going to be dungeons you might as well be able to get some shards in the process.

Yes, but won’t the “disenchant” option show up in groups now (assuming someone has Enchanting)? Not sure how much that devalues Enchanting.

Actually, I also realize vellums will be in Wrath. So, maybe that does make sense!

Decisions, decisions . . .

I’m Skinning/Enchanting in my Druid.
My Paladin alt is Mining/Engineering.
Probably shoulda waited for Ling King Classic so I coulda/woulda been Enchanting/Engineering on the Paladin alt because vellums and stay double gathering on the Druid.

Oh right that disenchant option in wrath is great for non-enchanters, kind sucks for the enchanter themself.

Still good if you plan to solo dungeons for fun and profit though.

You can go JC to support your main. Craft the gems you mine up.

Engineer is great on paladin. Rocket launcher for pulling and extra aoe for tanking. If you’d rather just make money, then stay enchanting and shard all the dungeon drops.

I find JC and Mining really fun.

I never understood why these kind of threads were made you’re literally going to have everybody in here giving you different professions and why and you can probably make a case for going any of the profession.

If you wanted your best professions for the class you could easily find a guide for that.

Since it’s an alt, it might still be good to have enchanting. Especially if you’re going to be soloing dungeons for cash.

And, I will never understand why anyone would post in a thread in which he has no interest other than to be a wet blanket.

It’s the exchange of ideas that I value. Of course I can read a guide to determine the meta if the Paladin were going to be a raider or try high end pvp. But, that’s not the case. I’m just trying to get people’s views on some good low maintenance professions for an alt in supporting a main, either through gold or other ways. So far, it’s been thoughtful and helpful. Mostly.

Yup and so far the recommendations have been.

Enchanting
Mining
Jc
Eng
Skinning

I guess I can add blacksmith, herbing and alch to finish the list off.

There every prof has been recommended.

But it is the “why” that people offer that’s helpful.

I guess I just expect people to understand the why by themselves

If You Don’t know what professions make money or what professions do individually for you I don’t really know what to say

For your tailor main, enchanting dust is used in a lot of recipes. Another nod to going enchanting.

I did BS/mining this time around, with a focus on hammersmith. The weapons available at 65 are pretty solid, and the adamantite plate are pretty great in a pre-raid sense.

Back in the day, I was mostly an enchanter (eventually Enchanter/JC.) Herbalism/alchemy seem to be lucrative.

At the end of the day, pick what sounds fun.
