Are they the same thing or does game time only count time spent ingame instead of charging you monthly?
Game time and subscription run 24/7 even if u dont play every day.
Subscriptions are recurring by nature, meaning that once the time on your account runs out it will automatically charge you for the next month and renew. If you cancel a subscription while you have game time left, it won’t auto-renew at the end of it. If you add a subscription while you already have game time on the account, it won’t actually charge until you don’t have any more game time left.
Game time by nature is non-recurring, meaning that once you run out of game time it won’t charge you unless you purchase more game time.
Subscriptions also charge per month rather than a set amount like 30 days - this means that you’ll always get charged on the same day of the month every month, meaning you might get 28-31 days for a one-month subscription depending on the month, but it works out to where you get 5-6 more days per year compared to buying that amount in game time.
I’ll just add also that game time may be purchased with any payment method, including battle.net balance. Subscriptions, on the other hand, must be funded via a “standard” source like a credit card or bank account.
So what should I buy?
I use game cards that way you dont have to rely on using credit cards gamestop eb games or walmart sells them.
That depends. Do you want to set it up so you don’t have to worry as much about running out of game time? Or, do you want to try the game for awhile, to see if you like it? If the former, then a sub would be best. If the latter, then a block of game time.
That depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
If you want to try out the game, or you know you only want to play for a specific amount of time, or you are limited to using battle.net balance, buy game time.
If you are sure you want to play regularly for more than 30 days with few breaks, and you have access to a standard payment method, set up a subscription.
I wouldn’t buy an extended subscription or large block of game time (6 months, etc.) unless you are absolutely, positively sure you want to play for that long. Unused subscription time is largely non-refundable.
Depending on where you live, one option might even be cheaper than the other. In Canada for example, they’ve raised the price on the blocks of game time but not the subscription. So it’s cheaper to be on a reoccurring subscription here now.
As the others mentioned, Bildon, both methods work much like monthly membership. Meaning that whenever the game is available you can play as little or as much as you’d like. We do not have a pay by the minute/hour option.
I should note a couple of things. First, the price you pay will adjust based on how much game time you purchase. So buying a 3 month or 6 month subscription or game time code will be cheaper per month than if you purchase 1 month/30 days at a time.
The subscription option is a recurring bill, so it will charge based on the option you have selected when you have run out of game time on the account. Where the Game Time purchases need to be purchased whenever you want to add more time to the account.
One thing to keep in mind, if you are intended to play for awhile, we occasionally have some promotional specials where folks who are currently using the 6 month subscription option, or purchase it during the promotional period, will also earn a promotional cosmetic. It has traditionally been a mount but this last one is a transmog appearance.
Thanks im probably gonna get a subscription at summer so I can get stacked on wow tokens and play anytime I want. One last question can you use wow token even if your subscription has been canceled?
Wow tokens can be expensive there currently sitting at 114,589g
Ah yes, but I can probably farm out enough in 3 months to get another 3 months and rinse and repeat.
Yes, you can use one if your subscription is canceled. Simply have the tokens in your inventory, and when you log into your game you’ll have the option to reactivate for a token at the character select screen.
For a new player, I’d recommend using non-recurring game time for the first month or so. It won’t automatically renew and if you decide you don’t want to continue playing, you don’t have a subscription to cancel. You just stop adding game time.
