Blizzard should really start posting sub number very quarter. This will force the devs to face reality as of the game is doing good or bad. Simply not saying it is like avoiding the issue with the game entirely and turn a blind eye and grow disconnect with players thinking what they develope is awesome but in reality is not.
You clearly have no understanding of how business works…
I agree! So we can laugh and be toxic more!
The only sub numbers that matter are 6" and 12".
The devs already know the sub numbers. That is info that’s important to them. It’s the players and public they’re hiding it from, not from each other.
Players don’t need to know it. All it would do is give people more ammo to snipe at Blizz over because anything short of Wrath’s 12 million is doom and failure to them.
It’s their game. They will decide when it’s time to end it. It’s you that want the data for whatever positive or negative things you want to do with it. Blizzard knows internally whether the game is doing well or not. They are a for profit business just like every other businesses.
They already know the sub numbers, they work there. lol
Will not happen…
The only number they really care about is profit.
They usually want the sub numbers so they have something to beat the people who don’t share their opinion with.
Would you judge a Halloween store by how they did the other 11 months of the year?
Online games are kind of like that. People come and go, that’s why they use MAUs.
Ahh yes, meatball sub with cheddar cheese toasted with the works except olives and onions, tomato and bbq sauce to top off. Fulfilling and great value.
(As to WoW sub numbers I don’t think this will be a thing as lowering numbers tends to exasperate the effect).
Well we do have a way to measure Sub numbers …look at the Server capacities the ones of the most popular servers are always High or Full.
Exactly the reason they don’t do this anymore.
Devs rarely have direct input into the design of a game. They can only mitigate bugs and QA departments, PTR realms and PTR users try to find the bugs. They won’t get 'em all. Devs already know sub numbers but that has nothing to do with them.
If you are talking about game design decisions, that isn’t on the developers. Game designs and priorities are entirely different departments. Without working there, it is hard to know what goes into the decisions and what corners the game designers painted themselves in. It would probably be interesting to have a candid round-table interview with some of the directors and lead designers.
Numbers are only useful for banter between competing game development companies. I don’t envy people in the gaming industry. The handful of people I know in it work long and rough hours and often have challenging management chains. They get very little say into design.
The only people that care about sub numbers are the consumer. The company does not care about the consumer enough to refuse what stockholders want: more profit. In the end of the fay i dont think they will tell us.
We are in a managed decline mode in wow. I doubt they have the will to even change anything about the wow engine so they will likely just reshash what they can and milk what they can. Feels like the konami kojima split all over again. Blizz being konami.
Wrath had 16 million…but you make a valid point
They only reported them in the first place as a marketing tactic because for years the number only increased. After that they did the same every time the numbers rebounded.
They usually report increases not totals though because they know they still wont reach WoTLK levels and people will point it out.
Yes and the Server capacity counters for the most populated servers are still high and full.
So according to Blizz those people are still there.
They may be …chinese bot farmers pay bills too. and you cant exactly allow the words “Free Hong Kong” flash across their screens or they might cause trouble for their overlords in Beijing.
