Me and several of my buddies came back for TBC Classic because we loved TBC on launch and had the intention to play through all the content for the long term as a solid click/raid core.
We got going on Stalagg since that is where we were playing during Vanilla and had an established guild. The server now has roughly 550 players on Horde and the largest guild and other 4-5 guilds on the server actually doing any kind of content are all going to be transferring off by the end of the month.
This is extremely unfortunate given this being completely out of the playerâs control and we all have several alts so we could be self-sufficient with professions between us, but now that means to transfer weâre talking $75-100. The end result is many from our group are just discouraged and talking about quitting Classic and WoW altogether because they donât want to start over and pay $100 for something that was out of their control to begin with is a pretty crappy ask for a company to ask of their clients.
I have no doubt that the Server Transfer cost is baked in to ATVIâs revenue, but surely there is an element of Customer Service here to offer some kind of compromise for folks that are stuck on these dead servers. All of my group would be okay with paying the $25 once, but some sort of compromise to be able to transfer 2 additional toons or something if it was a transfer off a server meeting specific criteria would be massive.
Even just some sort of acknowledgment that there is a plan in the works to merge dead servers or something would let us know weâre okay to ride things out for a month or two instead of everyone just getting discouraged and quitting.
I would think from a financial/monetization standpoint retaining your subs would outweigh bending for a $25 transfer fee here and there if there were stipulations associated to prevent abuse.
I seriously doubt Iâll hear anything back from Blizzard on the forum here and the ironic thing is that a GM from a ticket said the best course of action was to open up a thread on the forum. Just some pretty stellar Customer Service there considering this is just going to get buried and never read by anyone that actually has any authority in Blizzard. So just spinning my wheels and ATVI is going to run off more of their customers as a result.
Is it fine to you that Alliance had to transfer off because yâall zugged too hard with faction imbalance? Maybe some of you should have taken that transfer to Heartseeker, after allâŚ
You know, I used to spam a translate macro âgo to heartseekerâ back when I played ally on Stalagg. I was just trying to help.
Bro, when ironforge is literally constantly overran by horde and there are no guilds left - you basically have to transfer, or you canât play. Do you really think thatâs less restrictive to oneâs gameplay than, say, an hour long PvP queue? Stop being stupid.
Itâs not even the BG issue. A server transfer isnât gonna fix that mess. No economy, lack of players to fill 5 man/10 man pugs and much less 25s after everyone transfers off. Some of us stuck with like 3 alts with maxed professions and the option is to spend $75-$100 to transfer off to retain any semblance of the same experience.
Most of the folks are willing to pay $25 once, but by doing that they effectively wasted hundreds of hours on those other toons. Why not just go play some other game instead of start over with all the work that was done up front to prep for the t5 phase? Thatâs where most of my group lies now unfortunately, and itâs pretty infuriating that Blizzard hasnât come up with another method to help retain players instead of just using the opportunity to funnel more Transfer fee $$ to boost their revenue as much as possible.
Youâre childish if youâre coming into a thread about faction balance and using Horde queues to bolster your argument.
OP is probably right in regard they like to be âhands offâ on faction balance or pretend it is just too tricky! to try anything so they can soak up transfer $$$$.
Blizzard failed us in faction balance. They should have never allowed one side to tip so hard on either side.
These posts attacking random strangers is embarrassing. Youâre after the wrong target.
Tried that originally and it was moved out of Customer Support lol. Thatâs pretty telling that they are just utilizing this opportunity to squeeze classic for as many $$s as they can while they can with no care to retain subs honestly.
What kind of Support solution is it for the GM to guide the player to make their request in a public forum instead of directly with their customer support? Coming from someone that runs training/logistics for a digital support team of 400+ people for a very large corp, itâs pretty terrible honestly.
Damn, well in that case man I wish I had better advice to offer than to transfer your main and ditch the alts. TBC is worth playing, itâs a ton of fun, but I doubt they are going to cut you gents a deal on the transfer.
Would be cool if they offered you guys and others a package deal but I donât see that happening.
Yep, I 100% think you are right. Iâll probably end up transferring and would be willing to pay the fee, but my group are not.
So now itâs like this awkward situation thatâs turning heated with the discussions sometimes because weâre going to end up minimizing our fun because some of the folks are not willing to xfer at all really. Some of the guys have like 4-5 alts and thatâs just the way they like to play this game. We all came back because we wanted to play together as a group so this will essentially ruin TBC classic and what we were all looking to get out of it. Pretty fantastic :D.
If it comes down to it there are plenty of other games out there to enjoy so will just jump ship if things get to a point that Iâm not enjoying it anymore. Just unfortunate itâs getting to that place much faster than I was anticipating due to this crap because I am actually having a lot of fun playing lol.
Welcome to the reality of all alliance pvp servers.
Edit: I also feel for you Iâm on fairbanks with similar situation of professions, alts, friends, and not wanting to spend $100 because horde are too toxic, overpopulated.
TF? I wasnât the first to mention horde queues, I merely responded to the post above me. Where did I attack a random stranger? I called his arguments bad, and I stand by that statement.
The simple fact is alliance paid money to transfer out of the Stalagg situation. The OP can do the same thing, if he wants - or he can quit, or stay on Stalagg and have a PVE experience. All are valid options. In fact, he has more options than the Alliance did on Stalagg in that sense.
What does he expect to happen?
Free transfers for him because his faction screwed the server up so badly? Hopefully not, theyâll just end up screwing over other servers.
Server merge with Heartseeker? Wouldnât happen because theyâd have to choose between Stalagg, Skeram, Kromcrush, Herod, etc.
Inb4 anyone mentions GRIZZLY, they were not the catalyst even if I admit they did not help the situation.
I hear ya. If Blizzard offered free transfers/faction changes I bet I could convince my guys to take it, but thereâs no way in hell they are going to pay to swap to Alliance when we prefer horde just for the aesthetic.
Blaming either the Alliance or Horde players for Blizzardâs poor design choice in terms of management of faction balance is like blaming the symptoms of an illness instead of the illness. Itâs short sighted. Penalizing players experiencing this because Blizzard didnât have a good solution for Allyâs plight in vanilla classic is no better.
Your argument is that Horde players should have to transfer off because allies had to transfer off previously due to faction imbalances. How does that solve anything? Itâs just a continuation of the same issue. Wouldnât you want to see some sort of resolution instead to prevent similar events occurring in the future for either faction? Quit being petty bro.
Just for the record, I donât give two fks about BG queue times. This whole thread is in relation to the PVE experience, economy, and not so much queue times. BG queue times wouldnât get fixed by a server transfer⌠You are right, our options are pretty clear: Pay $75-100, spin our wheels on a dead server, or quit. Thatâs the point. They are crap options lol.
How are you being penalized? By having to pay for transfers? At least you have the option to stay on the server and play PVE - thatâs an option alliance on that server didnât have.
Furthermore, Iâm glad you agree that we should not fix symptoms and instead should focus on remediating the underlying cause - itâd be nice if they run with your logic. Unfortunately, as seen by HvH battlegrounds, that doesnât seem to be the case.
Majority of players donât face this problem because they made the correct decision to leave their dead realm the moment it appeared it was headed that direction.
