You can try the character unstuck via web or it mite be quicker just rerolling the toon.

This also sounds like something the developers should be aware of so that they can consider fixing it.
I suggest posting some details (e.g., where this pit is and how you got into it) in the Bug Report forum.

was an issue for me as well. going into the pit before accepting the quest at the entrance made it impossible to leave, luckily there were spiders that could kill my toon and send me to the graveyard. this was in the tutorial portion.
You don’t have to die or use the Character Stuck functionality. It’s misleading but there is a ramp going back up to the top where the quest giver is located. There’s a torch at the beginning of the ramp and a torch further up at the end. Just hug the wall and you’ll see it.
