Since I started playing WoW in 2008, being stuck in combat has been maybe the most annoying problem to me. There is nothing around, you run and run and run and run. You end up having to exit the game, and sometimes that doesn’t even work. How can they not have solved this problem by now?
If a player has not been damaged or caused damage for 60 seconds, they should be taken out of combat automatically. Why is that so difficult?

Shadowmeld is why Nightelf is the superior race.

I think you’re preaching to the choir here. No one loves being stuck in random combat.

Apparently the devs do, because in 20 years they have made no attempts to fix it.

Combat flagging is built into WoW’s core system – it cannot be undone.
I suggest that when this happens to you, you just alt+f4 and go outside for a walk shortly there after.
After all these years it should be an option in the support system like the “stuck character” option.
I’m sure people would find a way to exploit it, but make it not work in PvP and call it good. Who cares if it allows player to drop combat with random mobs. With the time it takes to open the support page and start the process, it wouldn’t really be a concern imo. Heck put a 30 minute CD on it for all I care. The Alt-F4, log into a different toon, log out, log back in to the first toon method would likely take about the same amount of time anyway. /shrug

Didn’t they say that exact thing about expanding the size of the backpack? And then they did it. Just because it’s built into the core system doesn’t mean a workaround can’t be made. That’s just a lazy excuse

Been stuck in combat several times in the ZC, and shadowmeld doesn’t always fix it.
Basically all my characters are Night Elves so I can easilly drop combat with Shadowmeld but sometimes in group content it won’t work because of the rest of the party. Still I’m happy Shadowmeld exists.

It’s not a bad idea to keep a few invisibility potions on hand for when this happens.
I don’t know how it’s 2023 and we’re still getting stuck in combat with nothing.

Does that take you out of combat???
When you get the WoW stuck in combat bug.

It’s even worse when you force quit the game while in combat, wait 5 minutes, log back on and are still stuck in combat. So annoying, lol.
I had this problem in one area while looting mobs and it ended up being a dam fish that was aggroed when i went near the stream not even in it. It took me so long to figure it out and it made my time playing to be not so enjoyable lol
Indeed, is that the trick?
Because that’s “all” they need to do, have some potion or whatever. It can have a silly cooldown, like 5m, to not diminish the value of being an NE or a Rogue or a Hunter.
I tried the Potion of Petrification, but it doesn’t drop combat any more.
It does if you’re a mage, so…I’ll have to try it.
Being stuck in combat is pretty annoying classic WoW bug… but I still find tab targeting stubbornly selecting random dudes behind a wall or a bazillion miles away much worse.

As a Rogue… I have used Vanish to get out of “stuck in combat” much more than I have used it to get out of actual combat… since 2009.

And like OP, sometimes even quitting the game doesn’t work.
I just hearth, far quicker.
There’s already a solution, they just screwed it up.
The Treessassin’s Guise toy took you out of combat. The problem is that it only works on Draenor.
If Blizzard made it work anywhere, this problem would disappear in a puff of smoke.
