Think of it like a bell curve though. The peak of the bell curve has the greatest diversity of ability and specs/classes. If everyone is tossed in the mid range, than everyone on average is closer to the rating that best suits their ability.
For a player like me, the lower brackets are just something to farm. It’s a stepping stone. The experience isn’t valuable for me at all and it can be a total waste of time for those lower players.
If anything, I could be starting higher to minimize the amount of ‘farm’ time I have to find that proper rating.
Maybe you saw it, but I just worked this out on my alt hunter.
The first 5-6 matches below 1800 are just getting me into a range that is more suitable for my ability. Well, that means everyone in those games in taking potentially unnecessary losses, especially if I’m going 6-0. Even worse, since I’m building my MMR, those players are also taking potentially big losses to a player that might even be a lower MMR then them.
This problem would only be worse if I was starting from scratch every time. That said, I get the point you’re making, but I think a lot of us are unaware of just how low MMR can go. There are players in the sub 500 MMR/CR range that are in their proper range. Do you think it’s good for me and every other player who starts a new character to farm them as we move up?
If it were a race and we all started and stopped at the same time, then starting at 0 would be fine. That could be really fun for a short period, but that just isn’t how arena works.
