Stuck at 900 MMR Because of Blizzard

Queued up for my first RSS placement games and got stuck in a lobby with Frost Mage, Ele Sham, Boomy as a RET PALADIN.

Obviously went 0-6 riding my wheelchair across the map. Whatever. Requeue. Guess what??

WHY IS MY MRR 900 FROM ONE PLACEMENT MATCH???

It’s literally impossible to climb out from here becasue i don’t get rating from wins because my MMR is so low

Who at blizzard implemented this flawed placement system facepalm emoji

Because you 0-6’d your placement games. May as well delete and relevel. Your MMR is permanently btfo

MMR is a system designed to punish anything that is not a win streak. You must have a win streak in order for MMR to work in RSS. So you’re only way out is to get 4-2s for 6-7 games in a row before it’ll start to climb.

how do I know, it took a win streak of 8 RSS matches before my priest went from 1750 to 1810.

I think MMR should start at 0 for shuffle in future seasons. Placement games do feel too important and it’s too easy to inflate way too high if you start from upward trajectory in MMR at 1500 with 6-game blocks of exposure against the same opponents. Making everyone start at 0 injects more talent into the 0-1500mmr brackets, if only for just a handful of matches per character for the ones in need of less love and support. Especially if you take into consideration how rating activity generally works at beginning of season, they are basically starting everyone off at the almost halfway point of mmr cap where that same activity could be starting from 0.

I’ve noticed this on the alts i’ve decided to play this expansion that I’m not very good at. It seems super easy to very quickly hit 1600 on all of them. I like to play this game intoxicated sometimes, and it’s quite possible to overdo it and very quickly lose a bunch of CR. It takes exponentially more queues to get back to 1600 from 12-1300 than it did to get there in the first place.

And yet people like you actually defend MMR and think it is a good thing…

Should have left straight away, especially during placement games.

I wish I would have. It’s crazy how the class diversity in your first match can impact the rest of the season so negatively

Not even going to try playing out of this pit of despair I got put in

Or just get 1-2 wins in an unfavorabe lobby against 1500 players?

I popped down to 900 on one of my monks. Didn’t take long to push it back to 2400.

Win games = get rating.
lose games = lose rating.

Really easy to understand concepts.

Edit: actually 2400 was 100 rating higher than I had before taking on the slow drop.

Would it be better if you just leave the first placement if you are going 0-6? I mean -150 is better than -600 kek

Or maybe just win every lobby because it’s 900mmr arena

I’ve actually heard of people doing this in other games. :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

I am curious as to what leaving in placements does for mmr.

Beibz used to have a char named hotdogrob…

Fake news

And it is why the participation and people playing is diminishing quickly.
With the current state and no clear direction on fixing this mess it is not looking good sadly.
I honestly wonder how long this will survive.

The problem is low MMR players then get farmed forever. Every time a new toon does MMR, it’s just stomping on low MMR players. I think starting at the average MMR is pretty important to avoid this. To that, it gives players a small boost at the start of playing. A player who might be in the 1200-1400 range normally might have a small advantage starting off.

That can be corrected in a couple games. If you’re continuing to lose, that’s not the systems problem. Having a low MMR ISN’T a bad thing. It could potentially give you a longer runway once you start building MMR. If you continue to lose at lower ratings though, you have other issues that should be addressed. That isn’t an attack, but the system isn’t all that bad.

my lock/sham started 1500 and went to 2k after my placements, my dragon however for some reason started at 800. like, i just hit 70 and 1st rated content i jumped into on it for some reason was 800. it took me forever to finally climb out, just gotta keep pushing. you’ll break through eventually.

It’s because you have honor gear and they dump new accounts at 1500. If you are playing with honor gear this late in the season you should be automatically losing at 1600 because you are playing at a 25% disadvantage. You just need to grind out games.

Streamers skip this phase because they just have somebody boost the char in 2s.

If I can be honest. I have been having the EXACT opposite experience. Because I am a caster, I feel like the game wants to put me in “Fair” games. So I just end up being the only caster in an entire Shuffle, not including healers. But their crap is instant and they can heal 100% with it. Having to face my ultimate counter has made Shuffle and 2v2 and absolute H E Double Hocking Sticks for me. Currently Destro Lock, But might go affliction because idk I am lost.
