I don’t play arenas, but even just looking at the screens of the guys who make PvP videos makes me shudder. You can’t even see what’s going on behind all the addons. That’s how it’s done. Tracking enemy player cd’s, etc.
being honest, I just don’t understand why I would use addons
everything is on the screen, the thing I need to dispel, the boss/mob attack (I only need to do it once to know what it does) and everything else
I play casually but got basic stuff this season, I’m not aiming for mythic raids and gladiator, maybe that requires it, but for me more addons are just more things to worry about, I did my stuff fine only using 1 details just bc I want to see my healing/kicks/dispel
and most people don’t really do mythic raid progress, I can’t understand how an average player says they need addons, I’m not being cynical, I really don’t understand, and this threard so far hasnt helped it
I am a progression raider and there’s only a total of 4 add-ons I need to accomplish that task. WeakAuras, MRT, DBM, SimC. Every other addon I have is because I want them. WeakAuras is also an addon I want and not just need because of certain UI elements. DBM/BigWigs is not really required in the modern game with an organized group with a good raid lead and can be completely replaced with a WeakAura for pugs.
you really don’t need add-ons.
especially if you’re like a level 40 alt that doesn’t do anything at all I don’t see why this is an issue for you even a little bit.
you can do everything if you’re paying attention and write good macros without add-ons all the way up through heroic.
you might even be able to do mythic without add-ons but I certainly wouldn’t invite you.
This is a misconception. Add-ons are not necessary for playing. Dungeons and their mechanics are always the same; you always see what mobs/bosses are casting. Add-ons just duplicate this information in bold text, nothing more. For arenas, add-ons are not needed at all. If you’re only interested in arenas (in your words), you already know the cooldowns of classes, so you don’t need interface overload with enemy cooldowns. In raids, add-ons are not needed at all, except for healers and raid leaders.

Well your consensus is wrong. Addons make it easier. But they are in no way required.
Roll a new Remix character and disable all of your addons. Relearn to play without them. You’ll be surprised how well you can play the game without them, it just requires you to pay more attention
