I completely understand the point and I definitely agree, they need to give people a chance to prove the interest in an RP-PvP server, but if you want it to be an accurate representation and to actually stand a chance of proving interest, it should not be during a stress test. There are too many variables to it. Such as… 5% of people go to it in the stress test, as opposed to if it were a real server at launch 40% might, etc…
I think they could possibly avoid this by communicating here with a blue post stickied with their intentions on gauging the interest for the realm type and telling people upfront that if the interest just isn’t there, that they won’t be having a RPPVP realm at this time but will look into it in the future.
While I’m sure many would be disappointed, I think if they were open and communicated it well and actually gave the results, that would help avoid outrage. Communication can be very helpful instead of feeling left in the dark. They have been doing great lately with that all in all.
Im not going to get bent out of shape either way, but if i decide to go pvp again and there is a rp-pvp server, thats where ill be rolling
I’m not. Blizz is posting the thread and most likely monitoring the thread in real time. I doubt they will allow much in the way of trolling. They shouldn’t anyways. Send a clear message.
Personally im glad to see them using this communication tool for this. Communication. This tool could be utilized much better and in more ways than just trolling.
This post gave me a lot of hope for the future. Let’s all do our part and light it up with good solid feedback.
You might be right. Just grasping at any possibility at this point, heh. Perhaps an official server poll run by Blizzard would be the best possible way to show our interest and voice our presence, but the longer the silence we get from them, the less chance a poll like that seems to have of happening.
I have provided reasoning to my opinion on this. I feel like using the stress test to gauge interest in RP-PvP servers would harm the campaign to have an RP-PvP server at launch, not better it. Using the stress test to gauge interest is a highly inaccurate reading and I honestly feel it’d receive significantly lower interest if it’s all short term, since for a short-term server that will be wiped, people generally will just go PvP, or where their streamers/friends/guildies go, they won’t base the server they choose off of any thoughtful reasons.
I thought of that and completely agree. But i didnt mention it because we all know how blizz is with communication.
Your right though. I think they definitely need to make more effort and really look into it
This is definitely a big question. And if they’re going off of life, then yeah, the huge problem is the fact that they got rid of RP/PvP when they added War Mode to the game. So of course they’re not going to be able to accurately measure interest in an RP-PvP server through live alone.
Not to mention live is not an accurate representation of the playerbase for Classic at all. The vast majority of people that I know are going to at least try Classic quit WoW anywhere from a few months to a few years ago.
I have a question for a blue if they can answer it relating to what would be most helpful tomorrow during the stress test.
With there being a number of realms to choose from, I could see people continuously trying to login to different realms during the stress just in the hopes of getting in the game. I remember back in Vanilla that on long maintenance days that I wanted to play so badly that I would go make an alt on another realm if my realm was still down for example.
For stress test purposes, would it be best for us to pick a realm and continue trying with that realm (which is my guess by the way), or how would it effect things if people were trying on numerous realms, or would it effect anything at all?
Thanks!
I definitely agree with the rest of you I’ve campaigned in these forums numerous times regarding Classic and the lack of communication we have been receiving. So I’m thrilled in this positive step forward of them actually communicating to us some reasoning behind their actions. It’s refreshing. While they may not be communicating over a lot of things people want to know, it’s still way better than nothing at all. And a proper place to deposit feedback is fantastic.
There was a poll. IIRC it consisted of 18k respondents. Those in favor of RPPVP far outweighed those who wanted RP realms alone.
I feel this is the first time you’ve encountered this subject and are adding friction to the subject out of ignorance.
When i attempt to log in to Classic WoW, i get the accounts of WoW 1 and WoW 2. Does this mean i will be in the beta?
D= Dang it! I wish I’d heard of this, RP-PvP would have had my vote, as well.
No - it’s only showing you additional accounts that belong to your battle.net account in their own dedicated dropdown now. For more information there’s also my other thread
Client builds are different. That said, I copied the Beta folder, renamed it to_classic_ and then did the install, only had to download about 26 megs of new stuff.
It automatically does this without renaming or moving files, I had the classic client from prior stress tests, it did an extremely small installation of the new client. It should automatically detect the existence of the other client and build off it.
Please at least read and understand the OP of this thread before you continue with your posting about the subject:
Or better yet just skip to this graph:

Come now, as much as I want an RP-PvP server at launch, let’s not be disingenuous. The poll you’re talking about was not an official poll conducted by Blizzard like Alexes is talking about, it was a reddit poll.
Well, you’re going to need to move some files around as their location/path would change because it’s not going to be the same realm names.
But beyond that, the data files created with your config settings should be able to transfer across. For that matter, many of your settings from retail can transfer across if you’re clever.
I get what you’re saying but why would they bother taking the time to set up 1 RP server, 5 PvP servers and 4 normal servers if they had no intention of monitoring their popularity. If it didn’t matter, wouldn’t they just have 10 normal realms?
