In other random news, and mostly just me blabbing Azeroth thoughts…
I’m highly contemplating swapping factions for DF. I usually keep alts on both sides (MG Alliance, WrA Horde) and switch my main around from time-to-time every few expansions. The REAL question is, which race… thinking maybe troll since Jungle Trolls got some absolutely amazing customizations in SL that I haven’t played with much yet. I’m also not beholden to the one (staunchly Alliance) person I play with anymore since he kinda fell off the map. Decisions, decisions.
I’m still planning to main a Dark Iron for DF, who I intend on creating soon. I wish Dark Irons were part of the Horde, though I’ll probably elaborate more on that when I actually make the character.
I love Dark Iron! I had originally planned to main DI as well this upcoming expac, but feeling a little bland on the Alliance lately. I wish we’d get the customization overhaul that some of the other Allied Races got with one of the SL patches, the limited hairstyle/colours just aren’t cutting it, and I’d love to be able to toggle the fire-y hair on and off!
I’m fine with the amount of customization DIs have. Too much customization can actually turn me away from playing specific races. I try to change how my characters look every so often and imagine afterwards why they’ve changed that way, and some of the changes are difficult to explain. I think it’s made me tired of playing as a Thalassian Elf. Though I’d play as my demon hunter if the expansion were thematically appropriate for it.
That’s 100% understandable and one of the reasons why I don’t really RP (despite sticking mainly to RP servers) as I feel like I’d have to somehow explain/justify my never ending need to change up my character’s appearance.
I do typically try to stay in the realm of immersion though, and I’m having a hard time justifying why my Priest would be on the Dragon Isles to begin with. I’ve been contemplating shelving her for a bit in favor of my Shaman, but we’ll see. I’ll be interested to see how the playstyle of my favored classes feel come pre-patch, so I can get a better idea on what I may prefer.
Idk if this had anything to do w it but I generally am not a huge fan of Tolkien, but then I also know people who love Tolkien and also loved the show so idk.
I really hope HBO brings back Gilded age this holiday season. It came out like 2022 holiday season so I hope 2023 holiday season but knowing HBO it’ll probably be like December 2023 in time for 2024 holiday season lol
Yeah, I know plenty of folks who both love and don’t love Tolkien who enjoyed it, and many who didn’t so I think it was a ‘to each their own’ kinda thing.
I felt their need to have a ‘twist’ at the end felt a little forced, and there was something strange about it that didn’t sit right that I can’t quite put my finger on. It almost didn’t feel like it came from the same universe… almost like a ‘yassified’ LotR. I’ll continue to watch any consecutive seasons though because I am a general lover of fantasy anyway and did really enjoy parts of it like the Dwarves and the character design overall.
It was so difficult for me to figure that out when it came to both my existing characters and thinking of new characters. I’m not entirely satisfied with what I have in mind but it should do. I’m intending for my new main to be someone who has never left Blackrock Mountain and is using this opportunity to do so. I think the timeskip is good for that. This seems to be a shaman focused expansion so that might help you.
I loved Durin and Disa in the show I’m generally not a fan of dwarves but I loved those two
This is kinda why I watched it in the first place too actually.
I was also skeptical of liking it for a few reasons, the most recent memory of being I fell asleep in EVERY single Hobbit showing (meaning all 3 of the trilogy). Now I NEVER fall asleep in movies, and that I fell asleep in each of the hobbit movies is telling to me, especially since it was the same experience in each, I’d fall asleep in fighting scenes wake up some time later and they were still in the same battle I was like omg they’re still fighting this battle.
The other main reason was there is a certain type of Tolkien fans I notice have a habit of showing up where ever anyone is discussing enthusiastically ASOIAF stuff whether it’s liking George as a writer or just stuff from the books people like, and proceeding to tell us why they like Tolkien better. Which always left a bad taste in my mouth bcz it’s like who asked you about Tolkien omg??
So I went in expecting to be kinda what ever about the show but ended up loving it.
That’s a cool take! The time skip definitely helps a little when formulating ideas for characters, but I know folks who felt it was quite a hindrance as well for long-time RP toons. It’s definitely a give and take situation.
The nice thing with DI is that they have been so isolated and somewhat new to the Alliance that it’s simple to ease them into new stories, it gets a lot more convoluted with longstanding races especially if there’s no faction conflict driving the narrative for any characters to be there, at least that’s how it is in my own head.
For my Priest, I was leaning on a bit of an idea of a Moira loyalist sorceress sent to the Dragon Isles to sus out any potential Twilight’s Hammer activity since their presence is inevitable when it comes to elemental energies. Other than that though, I got nothin’.
This was always so odd to me, I feel like some Tolkien fans are extremely elitist when it comes to other fantasy writers/stories/ideas. It seemed like a majority of die-hard Tolkien fans really despised even the thought of RoP, so they were just looking for reasons to rip on it. Not to mention some people who prop Tolkien up as the ‘one true fantasy writer’ absolutely SEETHE at the thought of other interesting fantasy. Let people like what they like, dang.
I am a fan, but I also cautiously embrace any content for stories that I love, because it gives me the opportunity to experience more of it.
People can like and dislike what they want, at the end of the day we’re all just nerds who are nerdin’.
Like, I love the LOTR universe and the amazing things Tolkien gave us. Without him fantasy definitely wouldn’t be what it is today. But also, I absolutely love A Song of Ice and Fire too. Georges universe, at least in the books, is super deep and really cool and thought out.
I never understood why some Tolkien fans think you have to hate everything not made by him
I feel like a lot of fandoms can feel this way, sadly. Even WoW has elitists on either faction stating theirs is superior or what the point of playing is if you don’t do mythics/raiding etc.
Liking more than one thing!? What a concept! /sarcasm
Oof. Man they always give him some lengthy suspensions. They really seem to have it in for him.
We did not see eye to eye on alot of things, but I thought he was generally OK enough, as Forum Posters go. He is good about keeping a record of stuff that goes on in the Forums, but that seems to get him in trouble.
I feel for him. That is a long time. I would appeal it if I were him. He may at least get a reduction in the time.
Yeah it is bittersweet. After its over - it might be a year or more before the next episode, likely longer than a year. Excited but a tad bummed out.
I am currently RPing my pandaren Beast Master as a Death Knight Ranger. I might say that he and his Frostbrood Proto Drake were drawn to the islands elemental nature. Since he still retains a lot of his own nature magic, even in death and wants to develop a further connection with the land to give him a purpose in his deathless state.
Time to start HOTD and hope w all my might HBO Max doesn’t start buffering or what ever you call it where it stops and glitches bcz too many people are watching
