Yeah I’ve heard for example apparently dwarves don’t have much in the way of sexual dimorphism in Middle Earth. So for all we know we’ve met dwarven women already.

And a society that is essentially bereft of the concept of gender sounds way more interesting than whatever it is they’re doing.

Can you imagine how good Warcraft would be if they had writers this good? Shadowlands was very similar but because the Jailer ultimately was no one the story fell flat.

it was Kiraser that piqued my interest in watching this show. In many ways I appreciate this show more because it has similar themes and story to WoW but it does it better.

I found this on twitter the edited scenes are spoilers so heads up but what the person noted in the tweet said I’m not okay :sob: I didn’t think shipping these two would be as popular as they ended up

I’m kinda waiting to see how the show goes. But I’m in fantasy circles so seeing people make ‘couple goals’ tweets over incest couples is baffling to me.

Like maybe I’m misremebering GoT but I recall incest being ya know, a villainous trait for most of it. Between that and the rise of pornography in the same vein, as an only child, I’m side eyeing all ya’ll. What we trying to bring back the Happsburg chin look?

Wow I like that! so subtle.

It was tolerated with the Targeryans because you know, they had flying dragons and nobody was really willing to get too mouthy about it.

But since their downfall, it did become a pretty taboo thing to do

Some people are so quick w like noting the little details

To be fair I’m a Lannister / Hightower / Tyrell stan, in that order. Which I guess as a Lannister stan I have to defend Cersei but I just overlook that I feel like by the time we meet her in the books she’s more concerned w power overall anyways

I’m a Jaime fan so I get it. :joy:

Book Cersei was way better than show Cersei. As long as you are not a fan of Alicent Hightower… nervous laughter (actually Alicent is not bad, it’s the people she surrounds herself with.)

I mean I get it as the historical reference. Royal families were and are inbred as all hell. The Queen of England was married to her cousin. And given how literally all of the European leaders were related WW1 remains the bloodiest family feud in living memory.

I am Alicents defense attorney.

Idk I’m conflicted I don’t like Rhaenyra but I stan her kids being good rulers if they got to ruling. But I also view Alicents concerns over the fear of her own kids as valid.

Summary

I feel like Rhaenyras succession should be valid, but I also feel like she did things to warrant disinheriting, the way Aegon V disinherited his son Prince Duncan years later, I also don’t like how she isn’t willing to defend the succession rights of other daughters of lords of the realm so it kinda made it easier for me to side eye her from there.

I really dislike Daemon. But other than that I think everyone else on her side is cool and wish they’d all just get along and make peace :smiling_face_with_tear:

I think Alicent believes this lie that if she is a good woman and follows the rules, she will be rewarded, vs Rhaenyra who doesn’t follow the rules and expects to break tradition.

While yes, Alicent’s children have the better overall claim, she hasn’t raised them to be good rulers or even good people. She was so focused on doing what Otto told her to do she was never able to be herself until her breakdown last episode.

I also generally dislike Daemon too. I hate Criston Cole and Larys Strong, they can both take walk off a cliff.

Rhaenys surprised me the most. She’s only on her own side and good for her. I appreciate that.

I’m ded. I just found a Haladriel edit to my favorite Fleetwood Mac song, The Chain. I love the internet.

Thats fair.

Summary

Overall I view Alicent’s concerns over her own kids as valid if only because it becomes clear that Rhaenyra never has repercussions for various things she’s at fault for, the fact that her son did lose an eye and nothing came of it cements that fears validity. Like to me it doesn’t seem that far a stretch to be concerned with well in the future if others try to point out her sons parentage would she or could she not just harm her half siblings or would Daemon.

Even the Lucerys thing is going to be hard to watch cause even though I dislike Rhaenyra I think she raised good kids, but overall I do view it as a battle, at that point both sides were calling banners so first blood was bound to happen it just is sad it was Luke, but to follow that up w what happens to Helaenas kids even if it was Daemon behind it kinda proved to me that Alicent’s line would always be in danger / at risk.

I actually loved the Helaena / Jace proposal I feel like that would have been the best way to actually kill that concern over the threat to Alicent’s side, I don’t recall it in the book material though?? Was that a show thing only or maybe I just forgot.

So many edits have come out in the last day I have been screaming bcz I literally love that sm, on one hand I want at least for one season for them to be a power duo but also my friend told me they have to contend w like really serious Tolkien fans so I’m like ugh.

See, I would rather shows not follow canonical lore to a tee because it destroys creativity and story telling. I felt the same way about Rogue One. Diehard SW fans complaiend that they made a whole movie to fill a plot hole, but at the end of the day imo it was one of the best Star Wars movies ever.

Rings of Power should be the same, No one should be watching this show trying to find lore discrepancies, it’s meant to just be enjoyed as a standalone series, and you don’t have to have extensive LotR lore knowledge to follow it. There is some really neat lore addiditions, like the Dwarves singing to the mountain to see where ore veins are, that was really cool. And the origin of Mithril, was awesome.

I hope the forum is quiet today because everyone is binge watching this show. Here’s another funny meme I found.

Well, I think it’s mostly because Amazon doesn’t have the rights to use the Second Age material. So that’s why a lot of the shows events are different from the source material.

Very much same!

I feel like they shoulda

Summary

Had the Halbrand / Galadriel power duo be the end of s1 though…that way we coulda had our power duo as a storyline s2 and they coulda returned to form eventually letting them fall out (I’d be sad but understand) but it coulda allowed them to branch off and tell a unique story while ultimately returning to the status quo of them being enemies again.

Yeah I had heard something like that - personally like the above poster said and I agreed w I’d like them to branch off and do those more unique stories, but my friend was telling me that overall Amazon still has to contend w the fans who will be mad at huge variations (like for example the pair that ended up being a popular ship now at the end of s1)

But I am excited regardless for s2!

Once HOTD ends … I’m going to be looking for HBO to have Gilded Age ready to go- hopefully both rings of power and HOTD filming will go smoothly and not be too long

Not sure about anyone else but I enjoy WoW because the fanbase doesn’t have much of a shipping culture.

I hear ya. I’m a Tolkien fan and I understand wanting to respect the man who gave us such a fantastic world to explore. But deviating from the source material, even a little bit, shouldn’t be considered high treason :dragon:

I’m looking forward to the GoT spinoff A Tale of Dunk and Egg.

I loved that book, I read somewhere that Ser Duncan the Tall was probably an ancestor of Brianne of Tarth. Something about the Rainbow Knight finally settling in the Sapphire Isles. He never did find his Dornish girlfriend (maybe the show can change that in the show)

I just hope that HBO and Amazon don’t keep this rivalry between nerds, Both shows are great. Both deserve to continue, there is room for more than one fantasy show in popular media.

See my other friend who is a huge Tolkien fan too has the same stance! Like she isn’t bothered by deviating which is cool and I hope is the route Amazon takes season 2 as well!

Same I loved that book!! There’s supposed to be more but honestly if George goes to that before he finishes Winds I’ll be so annoyed, especially since post Lannisters I Stan (f)Aegon and want him and Arianne to get married. It’s funny because if he is a Blackfyre I don’t care bcz him as a character I like (like there’s some people who support him because they think he’s a Blackfyre but for me its more I just like him and if he ends up as one I won’t care) - but the Blackfyre original rebellion I don’t like them since to me it just seems like they were basically playing to racist sentiments w Dorne joining the kingdoms which is gross and Daeron II was a good king so like idk that makes me mad, the only time I’m kinda a Targ supporter is in that rebellion.

haha sorry, Do you find that HotD copied almost verbaitm the jousting scenes from Dunk and Egg, I was watching the first episode of this season like Daemon’s armor is exactly how the armor is depicted in the book. i was like, “I’ve seen this before!” in my head while reading Dunk’s first tournament.

Speculation for season 2: do you think Nori being friends with the guy who fell from the sky (who is the first wizard right?) might be the reason Samwise (her ancestor) seems to be able to resist the pull of the ring? That might be an easy way to explain why Sam was able to carry Frodo while carrying the ring and not be affected by it.

Not sure if anyone is interested but I found this really interesting article which pretty much sums up all my feelings on this show. https://slate.com/culture/2022/10/rings-of-power-lord-of-the-rings-female-characters.html
