Fun fact, the meme “kek” originates from WoW. “Kek” is what an Alliance player sees when a Horde player says “lol” in Orcish.
What meme? Kek was always used to laugh at Alliance players, especially during pvp.
Kek is used as a meme by the alt-right. It didn’t start out that way, but they appropriated it.
Also, you’re going on ignore. This is the third time you’ve annoyed me since, you know…
I don’t know. But it’s probaby for the best since all you do is accuse people of being alt-right incels. Isn’t your sub about to run out? how long will that last this time?
I give it a day. He’s another who keeps saying their sub is running or ran out, but they keep posting anyway.
I think is like…the third or fourth time he’s claimed to have quit
It usually lets me post for about 2 days after.
I never said I would quit the game permanently? I take breaks from time to time.
Kek is how Lol comes out in Orcish. Exactly like how we read Lol as Bur when it’s said in common.
Long and stupid story but basically Kek became another phrasing for Lol on 4chan and other internet sites. Which in about 2016 warped into this memetic thing called Kekistan which was this fake 4chan country.
It’s all extremely dumb. But I do find it kinda intetesting Kek but not Bur was the one that got all weird on us.
I was playing wow when Kek was just a WoW thing, I was not around when it became a 4chan thing that’s why I was a bit confused, but now that you’ve explained it, it makes more sense.
I’m from the days where, when in the Barrens you have to make a Chuck Norris joke in Barrenschat
“Chuck Norris doesn’t read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants.” this was the days long before tradechat became the thing it is now.
It is a Thalassian thing that has been around for a bit. Maybe as long as since Void Elves were introduced.
I remember being Affliction and having a solo battle with a Void Elf Disc Priest at a Warden Tower, for like 20 minutes. Leeching and self healing and fearing each other - though he could MC me. He was talking to me while we fought a little, but I was not able to type and fight as much.
We killed each other a few times and we would run back and fight some more. It was memorable.
Same here. I associate “kek” with WoW more than anything. I hear it is some Alt Right Code Word, but I do not know enough about it to understand the context they use it in. Just that the Alt Right uses it for some reason.
It is quite probable more people hear about “kek” from the right wing context, than the WoW context.
For all I know, knowing the Cosby Crew and Blizzard’s past, “kek” could have some sexist or racist meaning to begin with. Some acronym or antiquated phrase with sexist or racist right wing undertones that only certain people who pay attention to that would understand.
it’s literally LOL, how that became alt-right I have no idea.
It’s been around a little longer than that. Both Night Elf and Blood Elf Demon Hunters can speak Demonic to each other.
Perhaps. That where I heard it from, and I did not know that it was associated with this game until recently. Then again, I don’t do much PvP.
Kingdom Hearts Spoilers
With the major hints that Belief Shapes the Worlds in Kingdom Hearts Dark Road and KH3 what are the chances that the 13 Darknesses are the Upper Classmen plus Skuld?
Baldur and his sister were purified of the Darkness within them in Kingdom Hearts Dark Road but 10 of them remained turned to Darkness.
Surely the Master of Masters and Luxu believed them as well as the 3 planned Union Leaders Skuld, Brain and Ephemer(all 3 of whom Luxu would personally strike down) into going back in time to become the χ-Blade with their Light becoming the 7 Lights when the χ-Blade shattered leaving them as Pure Darkness.
Skuld would hide within Ventus(after killing Strelitzia out of desperation to bring Ventus into the Dandelions due to believing that Ava would never let him in because of the Prophecy of him becoming a Vessel of Darkness) until Xehanort tried to unlock Ventus’s Heart causing her to expel Vanitas from him before moving to Sora when he sought to repair Ventus’s Heart.
If indeed the case then in KH4 the Master of Masters(after explaining to Sora how the Heartless in Quadratum came from his own Beliefs to expect a threat) will forcefully extract Skuld then point out that her own descendant Xehanort caused much damage to the Worlds sending her into distress causing her to latch on to the “Belief shapes the Worlds” rule to bring into existence a version of herself that did not stay in Scala ad Caelum but went forward in time: Subject-X.
Luxu not wanting evidence of beings spontaneously brought into existence(whether or not they knew it was by Belief) of course captures Subject-X and seals her away within Twilight Town’s Computer which Roxas, Axel and Xion uncover during KH4.
Sora & Luxu’s Copy of Strelitzia upon learning of how Luxord only became a Nobody because Xehanort believed him to become one(due to Luxord being the Player of Kingdom Hearts χ and thus dying right next to Xehanort’s child self) suddenly consider the possible existence of a Nobody Strelitzia and upon learning that Nobodies spawn in the Realm of In-Between by default Nobody Strelitzia shows up in the Mysterious Tower in a Black Coat(because that’s how Sora imagines Nobodies in Human form to appear).
Since Lauriam would be visiting Mysterious Tower the Heart of Strelitzia which has been shown by Kingdom Hearts Union χ to be hiding within him would transfer to her Nobody.
Bonus Points if Sora and Luxord starts believing that a Nobody version of Kairi should come into existence from her Heart’s initial separation from her Body and since Sora have different ideas of what Kairi’s Nobody will look like 2 Nobody Versions of Kairi show up in Mysterious Tower.
As for Yozora: He would be the Nobody of a Girl Version of Sora(the Nameless Star) possessed by a fragment of Xehanort(I.E. the 14th Vessel mentioned in Dark Road).
His attempted possession of Sora as the 13th Vessel, his possession of Girl Sora as the 14th Vessel and insistence that his 13th Vessel be a version of Sora are all due to an attempt to fulfill the role of Hero and bringer of Darkness himself as per the statements of the Book of Prophecy claiming someone named Sora is the Hero.
As for the Lost Masters’ roles in KH4: Ava(who created Quadratum and the other Worlds of KH4) is merely the host of the Hub and in exchange for beating her she will open the way to 1 World. The Wild Card allows Sora to beat her without a Boss Fight(her actual Boss Fight is a Superboss) and after that he must gather Treasure(Ava is possessed by Greed incarnate you know) from each World to open new paths to other Worlds.
The other Lost Masters will have roles befitting their Deadly Sin. Ira will be the Villain of the Star Wars World in otherwords as it’s Villains are all tied to Wrath.
Despite playing WoW from Vanilla to Wrath a friend of mine who also plays had to point out the Kek connection back in 2017 or so when I first started playing again.
I’d remarked it really seemed like the chat quality had gotten way more cesspooly in my absence. And he pointed out the Kek thing which I had completely forgot was connected with WoW.
Granted I have always mained Forsaken and back on PvP servers you had to pick just one side. So my experience fighting the Horde was pretty minimal.
Not that people weren’t loud about headass opinions back then either. But the internet was a different animal back then. Social media was still in it’s infancy and the idea any serious political activism could take place on it was strange if not outright laughable.
I think Terry Pratchet of all people might’ve been the only one to foresee all this. He had an interview with Bill Gates in the late 90s where he pointed out how this could spread misinformation like wildfire that’s as prescient as it is depressing.
I was always wondering why I’d see ‘kek’ running rampant on the interwebs outside of WoW, I’d just assumed that a lot of people played Horde or WoW in general. Yeesh, knowing that now gives me the jeebies for some reason.
Just a speculation, but Horde has often been the majority population faction which unfortunately means that there are more trolls there simply by virtue of numbers. (Not saying there aren’t any on the Alliance 'cause there most certainly is.) Combine that with the more intense/vocal Horde pride and it’s a recipe for a weird niche internet meme.
Although, if you go into Northrend Dalaran, there is a little readable book inside the ‘Filthy Animal’ within the Horde section of Dalaran that has some ‘Alliance translations’ which identifies ‘Bur’ as an “aggressively passionate mating call .” unsure if they’ve removed that in their recent lawsuit sweep, though. Everytime I see ‘BUR’ on one of my Horde characters I chuckle to myself a little because of that.
Conversely, there are a lot of terms/memes that went the other way, from the alt-right/incels to general popular culture. Pepe the frog, Chad/Gigachad, cuck, simp, cringe vs. based, etc. Obviously, some of those terms didn’t exactly originate there, but they definitely spread to the larger internet culture from those sources. On one hand I suppose it’s good that they’ve lost their negative power in a sense, but on the other hand it really weirds me out because they still have that strong connotation in my mind.
If there’s anything to be learned from Neville Chamberlain it’s to not let those sorts have anything.
Hey Benny, how’s sobriety? are you still off the juice?
The last time we spoke you were about to have a very bad day, how did that go?
Oh ups and downs.
My mom had a near heart attack but thankfully she decided to go to the ER and they caught the problem in time. After visting her in the ER I came back to discover my hot water heater had busted and flooded about a room and 1/2.
So that’s been fun. I’d actually took off today ahead of schedule to write but I spent most of it mopping. Fun times.
Yeesh, that House of the Dragon episode was SPICY. I have so many conflicted feelings on this piping hot (moon) tea.
Side note: Something I didn’t realize I missed about GoT is all the hilarious memes that pop up after each episode.
It was…certainly interesting. Series is getting better as it progresses. But I think that’s mainly because the book its based on is has been out for a while now and Martin is giving the directors advice this time that everyone seems to be listening to.
Can’t wait for the actual Dance of Dragons to start.
(Which is the Targaryaen civil war if anyone forgot)
