The bug is still happening. However at least the item with the mog already applied is staying. I noticed this today when all my store/promotional transmogs disppeared from my transmog selection.
Here’s a screenshot of me searching for Jewel of the Firelord and also having it already transmogged on my helm.

The bug is less annoying than before but sad to see that it’s still an issue
