Store transmog and why It's a problem

Dude also seems to think it’s okay to charge more for CE items that aren’t obtained in-game (despite specifically stating paying for things is no fun) because…it’s only sometimes.

Dude contradicts himself and when called out for it just goes ad-hominem every single time.

Oh I forgot, I just be daft.

Glad I’m not the one who started it in the first place.

Really? How?

It’s not just one transmog set, though. They added a tab. Like toys, mounts, pets, they’re going to add more. It’s not okay with me and that’s why I’m upset.

Like I said, feel free to re-read my logic and opinion as much as you need to, to understand it…nobody will rush you here…as long as you understand, that’s the important part…

I mean if you really felt scammed you wouldn’t still have a sub.

There’s no understanding it other than it’s contradictory. They’re completely incompatible statements.

So, I subscribe for 6 months recurring anyways. They sent this to me as a gift in my battle net launcher. I didn’t have to buy into the promotion to do so. For me, it’s a loyalty perk.

Adding onto this part in an edit - I also save money by paying in 6 month blocks and have no intention of quitting since I lead a guild and like where I am. So, it’s actually a steal for someone like me. I, because of my spending choices, don’t pay anything outside of my regular subscription cost for this set.

You need to remember this tab has existed before, for the helmets, and was removed. Not saying this tab isn’t here to stay but, it’s not a huge deal to see these as seldom as Blizzard releases new store items.

I’ve screencapped FFXIV’s practices under a similar pay model a few times on these forums and would argue they’re much, much more predatory about it. They charge for menial things like emotes and gender changes (which Blizzard just made free for us).

I don’t see this as worth dwelling over.

All of the Shadowlands ones are very high quality though and they did promise class sets will return later on. It’s a step up from BfA for sure.

But what I mean is how much dev time do people really think this one fairy set took? They made it a long time ago, it was datamined when beta started. What they’re doing now with BfA and upcoming SL sets is an intentional art direction. Everything doesn’t get roadblocked to devote all attention to one store set. It was just their choice to not do class things for awhile.

Cherry picking one section of gear doesn’t work like that. See heritage armor. See Covenant armor. You don’t get to decide that you’re right based off of one section of gear.

It’s also an entirely different team that worked on this, separate from thehe team that works on in game stuff.

The game isn’t worse because of one transmog.

DING DING DING DING! That’s what marketing departments do for corporations! Glad you finally get it.

Except they didn’t. And one outfit doesn’t make or break anything.

Since you don’t have one, you wouldn’t recognize rational if it poked you in the forehead.

It is to those with a 6 month sub. It is to those who buy it with gold. Someone else paid for tokens to get gold in game, someone else uses in game gold to get an outfit.

This makes no sense.

That’s a you problem. Not a Blizz problem.

So, what exactly are you complaining about? That you disagree with how Blizzard uses their art/coding departments to make something as an incentive/thank you for players who do a 6-month recurring sub which saves the player almost a month in sub fees (paying basically 10 months for a year sub?)

That’s what you’re upset about?

If you don’t want to participate, that’s fine. Don’t.

But you only speak for yourself. I’m fine with it. I’m guessing a lot of other people are too, otherwise they wouldn’t keep doing these kinds of things.

He’s upset that they have cosmetics behind a paywall that should just be in the game. He’s upset that paying for extra cosmetics isn’t fun.

But he’s totally cool with CE items costing $20-30 extra that can’t be obtained in-game because it’s just sometimes.

I mean, it has actual ear slots and works for all races, so the answer has to be “more time than all others”.

I don’t actually care about the set, and got it with a sub I already had anyway, but it does feel like the same quality should exist in game.

^^ This ^^

We are getting 16 unique armor sets from covenants alone, the raid set, the legendary set, and not to mention future sets and add ins for shadowlands. Not to mention what was it 3 tints for each covenant set?

You compare this to bfa armor sets, something that was designed 2+ years ago at this point. Even 8.3 sets were likely designed 6 months to a year ago.

I don’t get all the rage over everything done for the cash shop. This is NOTHING compared to wows competitors and their cash shops.

Yeah, your basic logic is null. Sorry. Move on.

Oh, so it WASN’T free? Okay, weird. I thought you said it was free for a second.

There wasn’t a tab, it was just in the Blizzard shop and yes, I remember the helmets they added one time 10 years ago, when people complained to the point where they said it was just a test and they weren’t planning on adding anymore…and eventually removed them.

I disagree. All of them should be obtainable via fun engaing in-game methods, hence this post.

Yeah, FFXIV is terrible…why should WoW be terrible like them…? That’s like, literally the dumbest argument “It’s okay for WoW to push towards being complete crap, other games already are!”

Yeah, no thanks. There’s a strong reason why Blizzard used to be the best gaming company in the industry.

That’s your opinion, I disagree strongly. I’m tired of in-game stuff being charged money for because greed. Mounts, pets, toys, and now armor? Can we just have fun engaging content and stop trying to milk the player base?

Totally.
I play Warframe on and off, and while it’s a sub-free game IT WILL LURE YOU INTO MICROTRANSACTIONS SOOOO HARD. It’s not necessary microtransations, but they will make the game much faster. Or much prettier. Or both.
I’m happy WoW is solely cosmetic for the moment.

This is what I meant by dismissive and an attitude, by the way.

Yes free. Because I received this item without intervention or needing to pay anything outside of what I already paid for this game three months ago.

Not even the prime focus of the complaint, but sure.

You’re right, It’s worse because they’re going to continuously add more from here on out, like mounts, pets, and toys…stuff we could have gotten from doing fun engaging in-game content.

Glad you just cherry picked a portion of what I said, but It doesn’t work like that, sweetie. I think It’s wrong, It’s the whole point of the post. We should get these items through fun engaing in-game content, not paying $20-$30

Literally sets the precedent of them adding more in-game items…or did you forget when they tried to do this 10 years ago and everyone got so upset that they said they weren’t going to add anymore and it was just a test?

So It’s not free, got it.

That’s 100% not free. Those people have to spend hours grinding gold whether they find it fun or not to buy tokens to get it.

How does that not make sense…? It’s literally so incredibly basic. Locking users into 6 months of subscription without them being able to know whether they’re going to enjoy the future product or not?

That’s no better than BFA or Legion, all the speshul stuff has extra bits but the rest is just the same old models with another texture.

The worst part will be ‘store creep’ where it’s slowly introduced and suddenly everywhere. Like log-in tip advertisements, Blizzard store deal of the day, mentioned in quests and plot lines…ultimately a price tag to reopen the mage tower just for you. :joy:

I don’t even know how to hide the extra bag slots that are asking me for my phone number, sorry, authenticator…besides give them my phone number. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Pretty sure, the eye rolling is because people feel this is truly the beginning of the end and it will become the gaming equivalent of the ads at the gas pump…which would be sad if true.

Personally I’m of the mindset that everything on the store should be available in game even if it has difficult achievements attached to it.

New things are good for the game, changes can be good after all these years, having them be purchasable or earned (like game time) seems logical to me.

I don’t know, perhaps read the thread? In-game items, ESPECIALLY transmog shouldn’t be in the store. It’s really as basic as that…

No, I don’t want future armor sets being in the cash shop at all. I want to be able to do fun engaing quests or other in-game methods of obtaining the armor sets.

Charging me $20 for an armor set isn’t fun or engaging in any way shape or form.

“BUT THERE’S MILLION OF ARMOR SETS!”

It doesn’t matter, I don’t want them in the cash shop at all and that’s my opinion. Get over it.

Literally what I’m doing, but okay.

And many aren’t.

Go check out the official video on youtube, 17k dislikes to 2.4k likes…as one of the only metrics to really go off officially, you’re wrong.

If they added flying for $500 every expansion, people would buy it and they’d make a boat load of money. Doesn’t mean they should.

Almost as bad as gacha games where I drop quite a bit of cash for a chance at a cute anime girl picture with some minor gameplay bonuses.

Yes, because It’s at the launch of an expansion ONCE a year or longer and is relevant to the expansion.

100% agree

I mean, if someone demands It’s free then says “If you pay $80” and demands they’re right…yeah, they deserve a sassy response.

So what about the people who don’t pay for 6 months of WoW at a time and play enough to justify it? Is it still free…? It’s not free…
