LOL - stellar player and human being… ahem. My advice to OP is simple, if you want to protest, be an adult, cancel your subscription and play something else! Ranting isn’t going to change the system and belittling other players because their opinions don’t echo yours also doesn’t garner traction. Say it with your wallet and exit stage left.
How can you argue that spending $20 to get an in-game item is more fun than doing fun in-game activities? That’s like saying “I don’t play WoW, I just pay for a sub…that’s fun to me”
I’m not defending myself because I don’t need to. You made a false assumption and were wrong, period.
I’m just making a completely separate comment that grinding gold isn’t fun for a majority of the player base. Saying It’s not fun really isn’t an assumption because if it was fun, like I said, basic items would cost 500k+ because it’s SO fun, everyone would have almost unlimited gold.
I don’t, I think It’s ugly. It just sets a terrible precedent for the game.
Weird, guess what happened when they initially released transmog items into the shop? Me and players like me voiced our disdain and it worked, for almost 7 years they never added another one.
I’ll do what I want, you do what you want, unless it’s telling me what to do…then go do something else because you’re not my owner.
There is no way to objectively quantify fun. So by default this question is not answerable and is based on opinion only. I can only say that relative to other games and the content that is already available in WoW, it is not something that I would have specifically gone out of my way to acquire even if it was a free in-game item. It might be fun for people to acquire this through the cash shop. I can also say that it was fun for me to acquire the Loyal Butler’s Attire in FF14 for $18.
There, I just argued it.
If the cosmetic helmets had been cheaper (like how cheap they were at the time of the sale before they were taken down) then they probably would have sold like hot cakes. You seem to underestimate how much people love their pixels. They were $15 a piece for 10 years. It just wasn’t worth the money for most people.
What exactly did I assume?
Was my false assumption that I trusted your words I quoted?
Yes, I am aware you made an assumption about gold. Nothing is “fun” to everyone. No in game action is “fun” to everyone. Earning mounts by drops? Not everyone has 600 mounts. Earning mounts of achievements? Even then not everyone gets achievements.
What precedent was set by the mog item?
I just can’t comprehend how spending $18 is more fun than doing in-game activities. You’re literally not playing the game to have fun then, you’re playing it purely to spend money?
I’m not talking about “Yeah but the in-game item IS fun!” no, I’m purely talking about the methods of obtainment.
It still wouldn’t negate the fact that it’s setting a bad precedent for the game which is the point.
…why must I go over what we already discussed a second time? Try actually reading what you’re arguing about instead of making a fool out of yourself…
For the third time. I said transmog should be obtained through fun in-game methods such as achievments, drops, quests, etc
You made a whole long argument how when I said “etc” I meant grinding gold which to YOU or other maniacs is somehow fun…
You’re wrong. I never said grinding gold is fun or that it’s how I personally think transmog items should be obtained…
That taking items intended to be obtainable through engaging, fun, etc in-game means and selling them for $20 to make more money. I figured that was quite blatantly obvious…
How do you know that these items were ever created with the possibility of being obtainable in game for free? They might not exist at all if they weren’t cash shop items. That’s how FF XIV’s dev team handles it. They have their own separate team for cash shop only items. I can’t imagine it being handled much differently at Blizzard.
I would prefer two more Allied races and they can delay Shadowlands till February.
Your whole argument then changes from objective complaint about the cash shop items taking away from the game to your disagreement with the quantification of the term "fun.’
Is it more fun? Well, my favorite transmog set in this game presently is the Alliance Stromgarde Quest plate set. It took me the entire expansion and 3 classes doing the quest every time to acquire the entire set.
How many hours was that? I have lost count. Was doing Stromgarde “fun” that many times? Was turning in my quest, on 3 plate characters, only to get wrists when I needed only the shoulders to finally complete my set, “fun”?
Not at all.
Would being able to pay $20 for the set have been more “fun”? Probably, because my time is worth a hell of a lot more than $20.
The whole argument is that they all should be obtainable in game, which isn’t free. We’re already paying for it. My whole point is I don’t like cash shop items at all.
You can say all you want “But final fantasy!” nobody cares, I don’t like final fantasy because the whole game feels like a huge cash grab and by everyone’s pointing it out constantly being worse, it is. I don’t want WoW to be anything like them, that’s the whole point.
It’s both. There’s nothing fun about spending money.
So you’d rather just spend money than earn things via in-game methods because you don’t find playing the game fun. That’s fine, you’re a rare breed, congratulations your opinion matters even if almost nobody else shares it.
“Congradulations” indeed!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news then but…
Every gaming company in the industry right now is doing the exact same thing. When it comes to making money, they are all the same. Even SE and Final Fantasy. SE and Blizzard are one in the same when it comes to cold hard cash.
Seems psychologists and experts do actually believe spending money makes people happy.

So yes, I do believe spending money is fun.
I spent $200 on computer upgrades that didn’t really make my experience that much better. But I enjoyed every moment of cable management.
Blizzard, prior to merging, wasn’t ANYthing like every other gaming company in the industry. They treated their employees well, they made amazing polished products and didn’t try and push un-finished things out the door in sake of timelines being met.
That’s why I like Blizzard, that’s why I hate these poor decisions they’re continuing to make for the sake of more money. That’s why people have a right to be upset about it.
Yeah, now that they merged with Activision and the original people who made Blizzard got gutted… sad that more people to comprehend that.
That was then, this is now. Welcome to 2020. Adapt or don’t. It’s your choice.
No, I don’t believe I have to. Just like when they released the helmet transmogs I think I’ll voice my disdain…and you telling me not to is completely messed up…feel free to stop trying to tell me what to do and live your own life.
I didn’t say you couldn’t voice your opinion. You are free to say whatever you like and feel whatever you feel. I even said “it’s your choice” for god’s sake. No one has to agree with you though. THAT is what you are looking for and not getting from some of us.
I will be happy.
This is not a thing, this is your choice. Don’t want to be locked in, then don’t and just buy the transmog.
It is, play the game to your hearts content and get gold to trade for tokens to buy your “cash shop” stuff…profit.
Who have been paying the same fee without a rise in it for 16 years now. Items in the cash shop help alleviate that price rise and inflation, just keep that in mind.
Imagine trying to simplify this whole argument into “SPENDING MONEY IS FUN!” there’s more to it than that. But nice try…
