Does it have to be a monk?

Seems pretty simple…and Ive yet to find any inconsistency anywhere in the game.

Tanks: you are expected to initiate the fights. Ideally no one should attack monsters until you do it first.

Healers: make sure to let the Tank know if you need a break from combat to recover mana.

Damage Dealers: wait for the Tanks to initiate combat before you attack.

Just because DPS CAN pull, doesnt mean its their role.
its obnoxious behavior that causes players to quit tanking. It causes deaths and wipes and much of our lost time.
If Im tanking and you pull for me, YOU kill it. If you cant, I laugh and vote kick you.
If Im healing and you pull for my tank, I turn off the heals and let you die, laugh and vote kick you.
You signed up to DPS, then DPS…tanking ISNT your job.

Your tank sucks.

Then your tank was trash and should have given up his career.
STop using this JOKE argument that because YOU may have managed to perform a miracle that this is ACCEPTABLE behavior because it AINT.

Absolute nonsense.
Its literally hysterical listening to these joke excuses that Tanks or DPS can MISbehave all they want and the HEALER who has CD’s and a maximum throughput on healing is somehow the one to blame when DPS or tanks cant control their behavior.
I really think some players are working for the NPC enemies, quite frankly.

If the tank and healer are OK with it then by all means, but if they ask you to stop and you don’t then you’re trash. If you pull and drop aggro on the healer or over pull and cause a wipe as dps then you just plain should never pull because you don’t know how.

I’m lazy so I’m all for someone else pulling. Might be because I’m not a trash tank and actually know how to pick up mobs too. :man_shrugging:

What if I can handle but don’t want people pulling for me regardless? I totally get accidents happen, and I’ve unintentionally butt-pulled my fair share, but beyond that, people need to be patient.

Adds aren’t the problem. The problem is when a demon hunter with ants in his pants wants to pull the boss before I’m ready to tank it.

Depends on the context.
Just random pulls, you can tank it yourself.
Organized pulls where the healer and tank are coordinated are not so bad.
A dps deciding they will pull 3 packs that all have important interrupts to hit in a key…
I have no time for that mess.
Yet another reason why most tanks that are still around run with a group/guild and do not pug unless they are prepared for a sh#t storm.
We know when our defensives will come into play.
If you pile trash on a pull and cause us to blow defensives before we need them, it just adds to the headache that is guiding 4 people through a dungeon hoping they follow and don’t wipe the group on a butt pull.

You should adjust the speed of your pulls to be pulling the most the group can safely handle. There is such a thing as underpulling.

I did also state in a previous comment that it is generally something that should only be done in more coordinated groups rather than with randoms.

That being said… with randoms, if there is pat we need and you aren’t going to get there in time and it will save a significant amount of time for a ranged to nab it and bring it over to you…

This is assuming mythic +, of course; in the rest nothing matters at all.

no…its because you dont care that youre HEALER has to deal with the incoming damage on those rogue DPS players and you dont.

There is such a thing as an over abundance of impatience regardless of tank speed.

Why does this “curtesy” only apply in M+?

When I’m tanking keys on my monk I’m generally pulling as fast as the healer’s mana allows, my defensives allow, and interrupts allow. Occasionally I’ll ask a rogue or hunter to MD pull if I’m feeling lazy. But in general my goal as a tank is to move as fast as is possible and to keep us burning through things as quickly as possible. DPS shouldn’t feel the need to pull on their own.
