You are removing convenience that already exists. That is not acceptable. PERIOD.
This is ridiculous. How is it rewarding to jump on a flight path and go make a coffee. You return in a few minutes… “nope still flying, ok, alt tab lets find something interesting”. Then a while later the WoW icon on the task bar is flashing because you’ve AFK’d out. “Oh… well, never mind, what I’m doing now is more interesting anyway. Not logging back in.”
There has to be something in the water at Blizz HQ for this kind of stupid to get run up the flag pole.
That’s how i felt when they pushed flying behind a stupid achievement when if you wanted to you could choose not to fly, Its a game with choices you decide how you want to play. it may not be as efficient but if you like it you do it, Shouldn’t have to suffer because some people are like “MY IMMERSION!!!”.
This thread is going places.
Flightpaths are like cutscenes you’ve already seen a million times, except they are more boring than a normal cutscene and there is no skip button.
How could you possibly think that it’s engaging to make your players sit through an unskippable cutscene where nothing interesting happens just so they can travel to where they want to go to actually PLAY the game?
There is a reason why almost every other rpg out there has some form of fast travel.
Took 5 minutes to lightly design a proper portal room that rewards exploring old zones and completing the content in them instead of removing player convenience.

I remember having a addon that had timers for flight paths so i could assume how much of whatever i could do while in flight. To bad i forgot what its called. it was an amazing addon.
Sadly, blizzard won’t listen. They’ll pat themselves on the back and go “We did a good thing! We made the world better!” and in a whisper smile, “for our time played metric”
It reminds me of the meme about the guys in the boardroom talking about how to improve things and the one guy who gives a genuinely good idea is immediately thrown out the window.
It feels like that’s how Blizzard works. Nobody wants to be thrown out the window so they all nod and go “excellent idea!”
I have one called InFlight Taxi Timer. It works pretty well for the most part, though it can get confused on occasion.
This is EXACTLY the sort of idea they should use. Would be a lot better than what we have now and then we can avoid all the concern of having to take longer to get to already out of the way places.
I’m still stuck on something Ion said in his Reddit AMA, that the only metric you care about is fun.
How does removing portals add fun for the player? Is it fun if the extra travel time means I do less transmog runs? Is the added time travelling through older expansion worlds (alt-tabbed much of the time) fun?
I can’t speak for anyone but me. I love collecting. I do enjoy running older content for transmog. I have never once thought to myself ‘this would be more enjoyable if I had to spend more time travelling to this instance’.
Please reconsider the removal of portals. I want them all to stay and I don’t consider the new portal rooms to be any kind of compensation for the loss of existing portals.
Read: When I sit down to play games, I like having extended downtime, regardless of how little time I have to play.
Bornakk, you really need to stop with the “this is how I like it” posts because, and I don’t mean to be a jerk, nobody cares how you enjoy playing the game, the only thing that matters to others is how they enjoy the game. You can still flight path 10+ minutes anywhere you want and choose not to use portals, but by removing the portals, this is just removing options from people. Less options is a bad thing, especially for people with very little time to sit down and play (not saying that’s me, because it’s not, I’m just saying there’s plenty of people I know that only get an hour or so, and losing 10-20% of that time because of lost portals is just dumb).
I don’t understand how removing old portals and ruining systems and paths that have been in place since BC/LK/etc and many of us (especially me) have memorized is in any way, shape, or form a positive thing. At best, it’s a neutral thing to people like you, but it can be devastating to low-time players who do old content for mog or mount runs. Also adds a LOT of dead time doing literally nothing to your weekly list. What’s the point?
No, it makes me think “Wow, that meme about Blizzard nerfing fun is 1001% true and it’s not even a meme anymore, it’s just fact”. Less options = less fun for people who don’t enjoy taking 10-15 minutes to get places. This is POINTLESS. Why all of a sudden is this being done? It wasn’t harming anyone in the past, why is it now an issue?
All its gonna end up being for people who like to do old content is a pain in the butt. Who wants to tack on 5 mins or longer for said flight path when just before you could port. I really think they should reconsider this decision as well just for that reason alone.
Why not make mages great again by allowing them more portals?
Fun is seeing more money coming in from investors. Obviously! The only reason to remove the QoL portals is as follows.
A) They’re being moved to a central location
B) The locations are no longer in the game
C) They’re being exploited (in which case removal should be temporary until the exploit is patched)
D) They want players to spend more time playing the game (ergo time played metric).
That’s the ONLY reasons. There are no other reasons to remove the portals.
We have to actually go somewhere to use a portal while mages can just use it from wherever they are and for anyone so it doesn’t affect mage portals at all.
A hub of portals out of the way like in Dal is incredibly useful, especially since we have the choice to hearth there separately from our main hearth. I’m not a fan of the loading screen, but I will take that over a zillion people in SW sometimes. I have been going to IF for the AH just to avoid SW.
Don’t funnel everyone to the same place for things like this just to make cities “feel” more populated or whatever. Please.
This could also be a valid solution. Mages haven’t been in use like they use to for years and this would make mages in demand more, But would also suck still because of having to find said mage. But i could go along with this.
98-109 players in Legion could not have used a portal in Suramar.
This greatly upsets me.
I have spent my entire WoW life doing what I can to teleport and get around as easily as possible on my druid. I have farmed reputations and the like to get things like the teleportation ring to Old Dalaran so I could have an easy port to the Caverns of Time before it was put in New Dalaran.
I spend MOST of my time in WoW still doing old content (farming pets/mounts/transmogs) and all you are doing is taking away my ease and convenience, wasting my time, forcing me to hang out in my least favorite and crowded capital city that I avoid as much as possible as it is.
Farming old content was a breeze thanks to how much effort I put into my teleportation items and I was so grateful in Legion for the Dreamwalking portals that allowed me to port back to New Dalaran and take advantage of all the portals on a whim without relying on having to wait the frigging amount of time to port back so I could play the darn game on MY very limited time as an adult with a job and life and spouse and house and pets I have to take care of.
All you’re doing is making me consider finally moving on, like my husband did, if you’re going to make it even more difficult for me to get around than it already was. Leave the portals in old places, I love going to them! I love avoiding the crowds in the major faction city and I hate both Stormwind and Orgrimmar and often choose instead to stay in Darnassus or Thunder Bluff or any of the other old expansion hubs (Vale was one of my favorite).
You’re just adding more time/annoyance by taking away my ability to get to the Vale and instead go to the Jade Forest which does nothing for me. I haven’t set foot in that place since I leveled in MoP because there’s nothing left there for me to do unlike all the other MoP zones.
If I log on to farm and find myself stuck because of these limitations you know what I’m going to do?
The answer isn’t “wait for stones to get off cooldown or spend time and energy hoofing it there”…
The answer is “log off and do something else that’s actually fun”.
Edited to Add: You know what else? This Monday I was stressed and thought “it’s the last day before Tuesday raid reset, I should go run Dragon Soul which I’m STILL farming for TWO mounts”. I was already in the Dreamgrove so I hopped into New Dalaran, went downstairs, hopped into the Caverns of Time portal and ran the raid and got one of my two mounts (but not the last one I need from Deathwing himself, so I still have to farm the entire annoying raid with all it’s RP stops and mechanics-heavy fights).
I was so happy! And it was so easy, I felt great! Now you seriously want me to find the most convoluted way to get to the old dungeons/raids??? It’s a nightmare to get to the Caverns of Time, fly all the way down, and enter and then do the raid! Take that away/make it harder/whatever…it just means I’m probably going to give up on that last mount because it’ll be such a waste of time to get there to do the time consuming content as it is!
Hahahhahahahahahahah……oh. You’re being serious? Oh…oh dear. Well that’s just sad.
