Where’s the bloody portal to Ironforge? Caverns of Time?
There’s no reason for removal of the portals in the room in the Shrine in Pandaria and the ones in Legion’s Dalaran. Duplication of resources my left buttock. This is about ease of movement and you’re making it a real hassle to get around the place.
yes, they could… but you seem to have missed my question.
i must have missed something major if there’s a book which lets people fly to Legion dal.
i wasn’t aware there were any interconnecting flight paths between legion dal and anywhere else outside the continent…
tell me more about this book?
“are”, or “will be”?
i can only think of a few which currently have a minimum level requirement.
this is one of the things people are flipping out about…
they won’t be able to take their lowbies to a hub which has portals that they wouldn’t usually be able to access in any way on their own.
i wasn’t responding directly to you, i was using your post as a general example.
perhaps i should have just snipped your name from the quote.
…but hey, thanks for responding in such a snippy manner.
So developers and many reps don’t want to participate in the official forums because it’s often a pit run through with ugly personalities whose standard MO is to harangue, personally insult, and demean others as human beings for holding different opinions, ideas, and preferences.
But they’re happy to leave their paying customers in it.
The only portal I’m confused about is the one to Azsuna instead of Dalaran (Legion). I understand that it was probably meant to be similar to how the original portal was in Jade Forest for Pandaria until you leveled to the Shrine. However, the game didn’t start out with Azsuna as the starting zone for Legion. The player was given a choice between four zones. To me, it doesn’t make sense to put the portal to Azsuna.
The other portals that have been removed (like Caverns of Time)- you’re able to get to fairly quickly by using the Cataclysm portals. (i.e. Uldum, then flying over to Caverns)
I do think adding in some travel time does make the world feel bigger. There are so many hearthstones and portals now, that you miss a lot of the little details around Azeroth.
It’s his job to know what’s going on with their game. He shouldn’t be asking us which portals to Dalaran Crater and Caverns of Time we’re talking about, because they’re the only portals to those places.
If you’re interested in exploring, portals will get you to the section you want to explore faster. If somebody’s not interesting in exploring, being forced to cool their heels through a convoluted process of going someplace is not going to make them want to explore.
Portals that I can’t even see:
Blasted Lands
New Dal
Dal (northrend)
Draz
Jade Forest
Portals I can see but unusable:
Hyjal for the Cata start quest by the Druid.
All of the Cata portals
Tol Bard: is click able but states must be level 85 to use.
So no-- no lowbies are using Portals to bounce around. They are still level locked that’s nearly all of them @ lvl 55 but one. So it’s more than a “few.”
The Caverns of Time portal is very useful for running weekly Dragon Soul. Dragon Soul is an annoying raid to solo already due to Spine, is it really fair to make it also inconvenient to access by having to fly from Uldum? Personally, I don’t bother with Dragon Soul, but I know many people do, and we’ve had that portal since Wrath of the Lich King, and mages don’t have a portal to it.
My personal concern is actually Holiday Dailies. Once again the Alliance will have a very long trip to Love is in The Air dailies (in Silverpine) and the Greench dailies (in Hillsbrad) whilst the horde can get there via Undercity, and nearby flight paths. Holidays aren’t the most important thing ever, but its a little funny that they’re just easier as one faction. Brewfest is easier (but not by much) to access for the Horde, Love is in the Air dailies are easier to access for the Horde, Winter’s Veil dailies are easier to access for the Horde. I understand that thats just nitpicky, but as someone who recently started maining Horde for the first time since MoP, I find it so much more convenient, and I don’t bother doing those holiday dailies on Alliance characters anymore (Except my mage, of course ).
I see absolutely no reason to remove portals that are already in the game. I use the Dalaran basement portals on the daily. Caverns of Time, Karazhan, Dalaran Crater. They all have their uses. RIP Hellfire portal.
Literally no reason to remove quality of life in the game
Strange that you were using my post as an example, and yet when I gave you legitimate feedback for the points you raised, you decided that I was responding in a “snippy manner” without acknowledging any of the counterpoints I raised.
So I’m just wondering what you were hoping to use my post as an example of besides the skewed oversimplification of some major issues, or if you actually had any interest in the points you raised.
Is this real life? Bornakk, can you honestly just admit that being in the Blizzard Bubble is hurting the designers? They need to stop making unnecessary tweaks that hurt past content (In Legion you literally have to use most of the portals being taken away for class hall stuff) and open their eyes to other problems in the game that need more immediate attention.
The bigger world argument makes sense, but apply that to new zones in future content or something and create a world that doesn’t include the same mindless world quests in the same spot over and over again.
I understand that some of these portals have been in the game for a while now, and that people are used to using them to get around Azeroth. I just think that adding, what? maybe two or so minutes onto your travel time isn’t going to be that detrimental to gameplay.
Just be careful, in your try to make the world “bigger”, to not to make it tedious.
Open world scale system is already annoying enough to quit doing more than 4 world quest per day.
I doubt if I am going to travel ~30 minutes to obsolete and irrelevant content when this changes come to live.
I gotta admit I’m hesitant to name specifics because I fear that will lead to the developers implementing alternate means of reaching those locations under those specific situations the same way they’ve added flight master whistles and more flight paths and gliders and super fast ground mounts tied to a specific location all as alternate means of navigating the world to try to compensate for the fact that flying is delayed in new expansions for such a long period of time.
I, very simply, want to keep all of the portals to which I had access prior to the hub in Pandaria being changed. Add the portal room in Stormwind/Orgrimmar; there’s nothing wrong with more options, but don’t take away options, and if you’re going to take away portals, at the very least relocate them to the new portal rooms rather than removing them entirely.
I do appreciate your participation in this thread, though. I hope The Powers That Be truly are interested in listening to and considering the feedback of the players.
To be fair, you can set a lowbie up in the pandaria shrine and they can use all of those portals. It’s not as expedient as using all and sundry, but crossing continents quickly is still helpful.
