What content are folks doing in like CoT that the portal helps so much with? What about other areas? How much time do you think the new setup will add to your journey?
Do you honestly have the audacity to have to ask this? Players new and old are STILL farming things like the Dragon Soul mounts & achievements, rep/dungeons for mogs, do quests they skipped as they leveled past the Cata content tier, and the slog that is Battle for Mount Hyjal from BC.
Its far more difficult and less convenient also it makes old content more irrelevant. Whats more there is no reason to remove them at all. You guys are out of touch just admit you are wrong and put them back.
Agreed - it makes sense lore-wise for the mages in Stormwind to have a magic portal room… but why limit it to that? If anything, Dalaran would have even MORE portals, to every convenient spot on Azeroth and otherwise. Remote locations like the Shrines in Pandaria would HAVE to have portals from a practical standpoint. It makes zero sense to remove the portals from a lore perspective, and IRL all it does is tick people off and frustrate players who are trying to get somewhere.
It is awful to add a feature and then remove it later for no good reason. Specifically, some portals duplicating Mage abilities is not a good reason for removal. In the case of Dalaran portals used for Legion class quests, it is depressing that they would be useable only within a certain level range.
It bears repeating. Portals should not be removed!
The Ironforge portal was recently restored on the PTR to the Boralus Portal room, there is also one in Ashran (Stormshield) that has been there all PTR long.
Leaving the portals in doesn’t hurt anyone’s experience, and taking them out doesn’t make the game or experience better. At that point why have someone put in any level of effort to take them out, track the issue, QA it, etc…? Just feels odd that a company would go out of its way to do something that’s going to inconvenience or annoy customers.
Larger discussion, but the same argument could be made for many of the things that have been removed over the years.
tipping has been defunct since portal stones were removed.
That doesn’t really mean don’t tip as a courtesy or as thanks for their time. Just because it doesn’t cost anything to pick a lockbox doesn’t mean I don’t tip Rogues that do.
You can still get to Caverns of Time if you first go to Shattrath, then go to the World’s End Tavern in lower Shattrath, Talk to Zephyr and she should have the option to port you to CoT. (there might be an attunement needed to make that option show up however)

A lot of people have covered why CoT is handy. While yes - we have the portal to Uldum and now Silithus - it is pretty frustrating to see the CoT one gone.
But what is frustrating me even more is reading that when you port into Legion and Pandaria now - you are getting placed in one of the quest zones instead of the main hub!!! That makes NO sense to me. The main reasons to go to these places now are for tmog, mount, pet, and other farms.
Porting into Azsuna is NOT OKAY! Most ORDER HALLS are accessible from ONLY Legion dalaran!!! Priest, Paladin, Demon Hunter, Shaman, Rogue, and Warlock (that i can think of). You are making it very unfair for these classes. Not to mention to get to ARGUS we have to be in Dalaran!
I can understand consolidating portals into 2 or 3 HUBS and removing some DUPLICATE ones. I figured out other paths to places when the pandaria ones where reduced. But I still had access without 15 minutes of flying from place to place.
I think that is what is the most frustrating to me. I agree that mages didn’t really have a point to portals in the current game but it is also hard to find a mage just sitting in SW to give you a port to somewhere these days. With all the WQ’s, dungeons, raids, incursions, Warfronts, and more - rarely do I find many players just sitting in town ANYWHERE. So finding a mage is super difficult. You are asking us to HOPE that a mage might be in the town or hub we are in - or asking us to spend time flying to old content and afking instead of PLAYING that content.
If we just got rid the ability to move on mounts and had to dismount in order to move our characters, that would substantially increase the time played metric.
