Stop Frost Novaing in dungeons

I think what we can all take away from this thread is : don’t bring a tank just bring like 3 mages Instead.

Honestly most of the dungeons don’t really need one.

They Nova I step out range of melee pop bark and hurricane and do almost the same dmg as the mages. It’s all good. Mobs die faster and I stay super high on dps charts

If I frost nova, it means the tank has failed at holding aggro. In dungeons I only use it defensively. I kite back to the tank and frost nova so the tank can switch and take it off of me. Although, I am not high enough for the shatter combo yet.

Thank you sir

This is accurate.

I read what you are saying. You’re salty when mages Frost Nova at the beginning of fights because it’s a lot of aggro and because of that you think Frost Nova shouldn’t be used at all which is just flat out wrong. Just because it’s bad to use in 1 situation doesn’t mean it’s bad in all situations. Frost Nova has plenty of useful times in dungeons. Don’t tell people how to play Mage when you clearly don’t know how to play Mage yourself lol

Just don’t AoE the elites for the first few seconds please. It is ideal for them to AoE down regular mobs as they are slowed and will die before they hit the mage. Your priority as a tank is to keep the melee elite mobs from killing dps and the healer.

Why wouldnt you want a frost mage to frost nova to give you time to build threat on mobs running away from you…

Sometimes people can’t see the forest through the trees.

This is why I don’t like playing with others so much. I’ve had a better experience with classic, but it’s all the same whether classic or retail. There’s just too many rules. “Do this” “do this” “don’t do this” “you have a have a certain iLvl”, “you have to use this specific rotation of spells”… whatever. If people like that, then more power to them. Personally, I just can’t do it. It ruins the enjoyment of the game. It’s almost as if people are afraid to make mistakes. So what if they do? So what if you do? If you die during a raid, is it really that big of a deal? It is just a game after all.

Or maybe I’m just too laid back. I don’t tend to take much of anything too seriously.

Funny enough, as a Tank I make full use of a Mage’s Frost Nova if they use it. I simply position myself outside of melee range of everything except the mob we’re focusing and the healer gets a nice break from healing. I’ve never noticed what OP is saying about aggro on rooted mobs, they always run back to me after they unroot.

But whenever I see a Frost Nova go off, I’m actually glad and capitalize on the extra survivability it can offer me. I literally can’t think of a single time I’ve seen a Frost Nova and was upset.

Some people only read the first line of your post and it shows.

look at his TLDR, if he wanted to get his message across he shouldn’t just call anyone using frost nova a bad player.

I rarely see a good nova. I had to explain to a mage why nova during phase 2 of rag was a bad idea. Sure he’s alive but the melee that died because of it wasn’t worth it. I hate frost nova.

I’ve yet to experience this issue and from what i’m seeing this is just typical wow forum whining.

Well I have. Maybe because you’re not melee? Not even 60? How could you really have seen it?

I’ve played since vanilla lol, this was never an issue back then and still isn’t today. My main was a warrior in vanilla and I’ve tanked dungeons and raids, never had an issue with any mages nova. Hunters were the only ones who caused problems.

i don’t care what people do as long as we don’t die. We had a low level rogue pull half of the BFD temple area and the hunter pet doing it additional mobs adding on afterwards, but we all lived. No harm, no foul. Yeah it sucked, but because we lived it was pretty funny.

I think people are looking for too much of that super sterile, quiet precise dungeon running that is in retail. Vanilla dungeons get messy and people just can’t handle that.

could care less what your dps is. You mean “couldn’t care less”. Thanks for the tip though.
