Looking at all the replies I’m glad y’all are having a nuanced discussion involving this. But perhaps some context from where I’m coming from is in order.
On my main I’m currently with a heroic raiding guild that doesn’t really get their feet wet with mythic and we do keys a few times a week. The so called “better” gear reserved for mythic raid clears isn’t within grasp for me or my guildies so we all feel pressured to play m+ to get the best gear we can to beat the raids on heroic.
Having the stress of the timer from M+ combined with the social pressure to get geared (nobody is forcing anyone to do it in the guild but we all do it anyways so we don’t feel like we’re “dead weight”) makes M+ feel like near-mandatory content that me and others would rather not participate in, but there’s no other avenues of gear acquisition that don’t have this stressful toxic speedrun mentality tied to it.
I’d rather deal with low droprates and farm a dungeon on repeat (like in classic) and just be done with it. I don’t want M+ to go away for those who like it, but I don’t want it to be forced down my throat just so I can raid with my guildmates.
Blizzard, stop telling us we can play the way we want when you’re going to turn around and force toxic systems like M+ on those of us who are the middle of the pack/curve who don’t have access to the “bis mythic raid gear” that you assume we all do.
Well people asking for untimed m+ usually say they still want it to be hard. Having to execute mechanics and not due on trash isn’t an unreasonable ask.
Yet others always fire back with “if it was untimed, you would have those waiting on CDs or CCing every mob”. I am just over here thinking “yeah, some might do that, but not everyone, as people will still want the dungeons done in reasonable time”.
I think they’d probably have to if the scaling for untimed was high enough to make it equally difficult to the timer version. It’d be pretty funny to see folks getting 1 shot by trash mechanics in a +10 lol
I didn’t make this thread, I merely voiced my opinion on what I wouldn’t mind seeing if they changed it. If they don’t? That’s cool. No need to get upset with me because I like to look for solutions.
Then we would have complains about it being “too hard”, maybe the best way to deal with such would be affixes that would activate only if the timer was disabled, affixes that limited how often one could use CDs, or empowered the mobs when such was used. Maybe an affix that limited the effectiveness of hard CC.
There are ways they could make it work, but the most determined will find a way to circumvent the difficulty to make it faceroll no matter what.
And when you lose the argument, or aren’t smart enough to defend it, tell them they don’t know what they’re talking about. That’s sure to prove your point!!
Time gates should be in place for the people who care about such things. I’d just like to enjoy the content without being forced to rush through it. I’ve deliberately avoided any mythic content because of the dynamics and rudeness that comes with it for 2 expansions now.
I’m sure the timer dynamic has really bolstered that “e-sport” thing for the content which is just dandy for people into that. Let them have it, let the rest of us opt out and not get whatever achievement points or titles that might be attributed to it.
I honestly despise M+. I love raiding, hate M+, I agree far too many sweaty tryhards in it. At a point in my younger years I liked the accomplishments and being able to say I did it but nowadays I have nothing to prove. Achieving something in a game really doesn’t say anything about me irl.
