Stop da boost

Seriously the 58 boost created a meta where every classic player has like 3 or 4 accounts. I know you guys make a ton of money on this but it also interferes with recruiting new players to the game because the old world and leveling conveyor belt that is so necessary to keeping the game alive is dead largely in part due to this.

It’s also just wrong flat out in terms of how badly it contradicts the fundamental design principles of WoW from the beginning. The leveling experience was never intended or designed to be skippable except in the case of DKs as a hero class.

Don’t repeat this mistake in WOTLK. It also contributes to botting.

The new players would just buy the boost.

Yeah that’s the point. They are, and the ones who don’t are stuck dealing with a more empty world instead of playing with the OTHER new players AND the existing players who are leveling their alts who could be helping new players via their game knowledge during the process.

I’m gonna buy as many boosts as I can.

One for each of your onlyphan subs?? YOU GET A BOOSTIE AND YOU GET A BOOSTIE. IDK I’m pretty sure it’s just way better long term for the game and IP if they don’t do this and focus on marketing to more new players.

you may as well save your breath, they are not going to remove the boost. they want players to come back and play, and there a lot of people who want to play wrath who arent interested in vanilla or tbc. they want to play wrath, and blizzard wants their money.

The DK change covers that. Anyone can make their first DK pre-boosted no strings attached, and that class is central to the WOTLK theme.

I don’t think they need to take it any farther than that. Also forum posts don’t really consume breath… :stuck_out_tongue:

not everyone wants to be a dk. save your keyboard wear and tear then. they wont remove the boost.

If they want players to come back dump the boost in the trash. soon as the boost showed up the population of classic in early 2.x tanked, and botting got worse.

if you want people to actually Play the game long term you need character investment; this means leveling the old way and actually playing the game from beginning to end game.

if you dont have the time to do anything but raid log, buy gold and effectively ruin the game with that action making normal player leave the game in droves, then perhaps its time for the coiners to find a different thing that is as pay to win as they desire. I personally recommend the casino, because that is the behavior model they seem to enjoy.

i disagree. i know a handful of my old friends that will come back and play because they can just play wrath content. will it last? dont know, but ill be happy to play with them again for as long as they stay.

Citation needed.

Blizzard makes far too much profit off that to ever turn it off now. Even if no normal player bought it, it’s still a profit from all the banned cheaters that come right back on a new boost. Those people also profit before the account is hit, so it’s a win for them too. Blizzard may as well straight up sell the cheaters a ban protection premium. “For this extra sub, we’ll let you bot as much as you want without any fear of a ban.”

Agreed, the boost really needs to be removed in my opinion, I wish it was.

I know some people, especially on the forum, disagree… but that’s my belief.

I am not speaking for everyone but from
my experience very few of the boost players who came to Skip-past and “play with friends” stuck around. Most of the people I know still playing leveled normally without the AE boost or the Blizz boost.

I only have 1 friend on my server from “old times” and he leveled the old way. I have another friend “from old times” who hasn’t yet made it to cap, but he’s only playing suuuuuuper casual like i mean suuuper casual, but he’s not been playing either in the last month and “trying out retail” but says he wants to finish leveling before wrath so maybe 2 people? Even then, neither have time to raid so they have said because they Remember the time investment from original TBC.

point being, I have seen quite a few friends try out Classic and use boosts, but none who did boost stayed playing.

This was obvious to be the case. Anyone who paid attention to Retail knew that would happen.

People say leveling and the journey aren’t important, but they are. That whole process helps players build a connection to their characters and to the game. You’re inherently more invested, and less likely to simply quit. This is basic human nature stuff.

But none of that matters to Blizz. The health of the game and the community. The long-term retention of players. Doesn’t matter. They want to cash-in as quickly as possible. Strike when the hype is hot…and after that, who cares? Put the game in maintenance mode until they can milk players again.

Also, they create a great never ending profit system selling boosts to the ceaseless army of bots. Do a token ban wave occasionally. Bam, bots buy more boosts.

What a great money making system they have. The quality of the experience is irrelevant, but oh well. That’s been the case for the better part of a decade.

Boost is for:

  1. Cheaters
  2. Casuals
  3. Farmers
  4. Altaholics
    Its not going anywhere.

except that casuals don’t boost because that isn’t casual behavior.

People who are boosting are pay to win coiners; if they were actually casual there would be no rush by them to get to level cap, and instead they would casually work toward level cap with very casual play of “end game systems”.

I am an alt junkie, i level all my characters the old way. There is no reason to buy a boost if you enjoy playing alts, and the best part of actually playing them is that you actually learn stuff about the class.

basically the only people who really boost are bots and the coiners who not only buy the boost but some also buy other services or are selling them.

Yes, it’s not going anywhere. But you can still recognize how harmful it is to the game and the community.

By the way, putting casuals on that list is ridiculous. Just another person who doesn’t understand what a casual is. But don’t worry, neither do the WoW devs, and they never have.

Ridiculous not to put casuals in the list. Try having a conversation before attacking…it’s how the grown ups do it.
