A good healer should try to contribute to the group’s damage. And I - for one - enjoy it (even if it is tuned too low). Stop trying to deny my playstyle just because you’re too lazy to weave in a few DOTs or something. Nobody is asking you to go nuts on a tight DPS rotation, just do your part to help your group.
If you’re not comfortable with that, then maybe heroic/mythic raids and high-keys aren’t for you. There’s nothing wrong with that. Enjoy WoW the way that you want, but don’t try to take away something from the rest of us.

Don’t you love entitled people first they say.
then it is
They don’t care if they are trying to ruin your play style.

Idk, besides world first, for heroic and mythic raids, I don’t think dps is a concern for most healers.

healer dps matters on some fights in mythic raids

Honestly if anything I would like if all classes became slightly “tank-ier” so healers have a larger opportunity to do damage. I like disc priest though so damage as a healer is just fun to me in general.

It can, but it doesn’t normally make or break the encounter. Unless something has changed since I last raided.
I agree with this, but for different reasons. Specs have gotten too specialized. DPS’s and healers SHOULD have some limited ability to off-tank, healers & tanks SHOULD have some limited ability to DPS.

Well said, OP. Honestly just sitting there doing nothing while i don’t need to heal feels like a waste of my play time lol and that goes for the other MMOs i play when i heal

You are going to annoy some bad healers with this one and im here for it =)

Like I’m not even saying “oh you should try to do a tight DPS rotation AND heal”… all you have to do is just weave in a few spells here and there. Like it is the bare minimum of effort…

Only GD seems to be worried about this. I’ve never hear in any key/raid that people flame healer for not dpsing

Nobody is trying to deny you of your playstyle, people just want the option to not play that way if they so desire, much as you can play the way you want to right now. Even if healer DPS is not technically required in most content, the expectation is there anyway and that’s a problem.
Personally speaking the issue isn’t spellweaving or switching targets, I do that constantly on my mage. My problem is having to juggle a whole additional set of targets (the party). Even with mouseover macros and all that it’s a lot of mental overhead that doesn’t play nicely with my inability to split focus well.

Still too much for the delicate healers of GD though for some reason.
Idk why its not seen as the same as asking dps to press some defensives or use a health put from time to time which would not be controversial at all.
In fact these same healers would be the first to complain if they didnt haha

I feel like the argument becomes more clear when you realize that dps and tanks also contribute to group healing in less perceptible ways just like the healer and tank can help damage dealers by covering movement requiring mechanics or grouping mobs together for easier dealing of damage.
Saying “I won’t do damage I’m a healer, not a dps” to me is the same as saying “I won’t use defensive cooldowns I’m a dps, not a tank”.

What should I do as healer if there is no damage to heal? Even hard content has periods where nothing is happening. Everyone is at full health and the pack is dying then what? Should I heal people that don’t need it or should I make the things die faster? As a rule of thumb I try to support my group however I can and doing damage is a gigantic part.

I believe that If you are struggling to keep the tank alive forget attacking and focus on heals.
If you are on autopilot healing because either you or the tank is just that good then yeah, weave in a few attacks here and there if you can afford too.
I don’t get this “How dare you suggest I attack!” attitude. If you can afford to do so… why not?
