Stop comparing people to the best of the best

The average rank 1 all have an iq of at least 150.

I feel like this is accurate in general for sure. Learning your own spec (or champion) and refining your win conditions is enough to carry you quite a ways as you fill in the blanks in response to specific situations, so long as you have an abstract notion of the shape of the rest of the game. I learned just this week that Alter Time is dispellable because I finally got my mage to 70 (blizz plz why?) and yet I spent hundreds of rounds on my shaman last season perfectly responding to most Alter Time casts because I was just generically following the formula of purging a tunneled mage being a significant amount of added pressure. My brain picked up on the incongruity in how I expected AT to function vs. how it actually did, but it never was a serious enough issue that I felt the need to investigate further; probably because when it “malfunctioned” it was always in my favor, so whatever.

In League you can do similar things. Sure, you can know the precise amount of time it’s going to take someone to back and return to lane based on the boots they have, and using that information precisely calculate how many hits you can get on a tower while still being able to fully back and return to lane yourself. Or you can just follow a standard formula of that if you need to also back, you do it immediately instead of greeding for plates, and only go for plates if you’re going to be staying in lane regardless. Achieves 95% of the same results with 5% of the game sense or knowledge. Most aspects of the game have similar shortcuts where you can discard most of the nuance until you’re actually, truly ready to use it.

That wasn’t a general question

He has a history of rating bashing when challenged by those he deems lower, but his legend being disrespected by a better player in a separate thread was the catalyst for this discussion

So, I’m curious about the double standard. I’m sure that I would agree with you that rating bashing is silly on its face, right?

You’re definitely not a bear lmao

More of a rat I’d say

of course it is but we’ve all done that and worse so like, there’s the double standard on his part than the triple standard where we all pretend like rating bashing is bad then turn around and do the same thing or something equivalent like 8 seconds later.

Doesn’t the weird forum pseudo-moral roundabout get old eventually.

No flame of course just an honest question that you don’t have to respond to but I imagine if you think to yourself on it you know that i’m right.

Hard disagree

You can think rating bashing is bad and still do it in a heated exchange

To make a thread essentially crying because your achievement was disrespected by someone you couldn’t rating bash is just pathetic

Especially considering the historical context of the OP

Do you honestly think that having your ego challenged and then responding to said challenge with ego, particularly in a competitive setting is really that weird man

Look around you it’s like our entire existence

Not saying that we shouldn’t try to do better but this is like so far from egregious considering the context

Shame is ubiquitous with human culture. He shames someone for their rating, you shame him for shaming someone, round and round we go. Why is that any different

For the average player? Not really

For this clown? Yeah, I do

It’s either the worst trolling I’ve ever seen or one of the best examples of lacking self awareness that I’ve ever seen

To be clear not agreeing or disagreeing with you here.

Just pointing out the weird pseduo-moral high ground the forums weaponizes sometimes to continue the cycle of trolling / being toxic.

That’s fair, but on the other side of that coin, he is really the only one that is regularly targeted with any kind of toxicity, and that’s because he routinely dishes it out himself unprovoked

The goal would be for him to just stop posting all together, or at least grow up a bit and come back, but ultimately, it’s just fighting fire with fire

You can disagree with that approach, of course, but there’s basically zero moderation around here so there’s not much else to do

Not really sure why you would make that statement. A tad confusing. On what basis would those players be better?

This starts getting into some ‘any given sunday’ territory. Where the line that blurs that best players from each other is pretty gray.

i dont think he was being entirely serious, but i’m not sure tbh. i dont find that to be true, and im also not sure how he would know that.

Is this thread real

They develop large bladders and slow metabolism so they can survive on a bag of chips and soda for a whole week. Meaning they can stay at the computer playing wow 23 hours a day and use that last hour for a quick nap. Add that wow doesn’t require the reflexes of those other games and these guys would master wow in one week.

They wouldn’t. Unless they dedicated their lives to wow over a long period of time.

ontop of being much higher skillcap than wow, dota 2 has like 10x the active players than wow arena. If you are near skillcapped at a more complex ability based pvp game with 10x more competition that requires great attention to detail to what is going on in all parts of your screen at the same time then your skills that you spent 10000+ hours developing would DEFINITELY transfer over.

They wouldn’t ever be better than players like whazz pika brain prev but would definitely bet better than r1 players like Nahj and whatnot.

right but how do you know this for sure? comparing a moba to wow. what about chess? would their learned skill set apply to that too? chess doesn’t require fast reflexes like counterstrike does, does that make it a less skillful game?

are you saying wow is an easy game and everyone should be rank 1 caliber? i am very confused on what your point is.

it’s just memorizing pokemon moves

so this is an entirely worthless post

I never played league but I know for a fact that dota 2 and wow require similar skillsets.

No but a great chess player would excel in checkers and other board games like monopoly

Wasn’t drake a semi professional LoL player that took home all the awc first place medals in his rookie expansion?
