‘Why do I not get credit for anything? I’ve killed the Lich King, I’ve killed old gods, yet the lore characters just boot me to the side like I’m nobody’
Legion happens
‘Stop calling me champion, let me go back to being a nobody’
Sounds like to me Legion handled the champion thing pretty poorly to a point of tiresome overuse.
But to answer your question, it’s both and neither. I think what i,(and others like me probably) want is somewhere down the middle, where were not entirely ignored for our deeds but not exactly looked upon as the next green jesus’es. And considering the story in WoW, handle these really poorly, i mean were champions for goodness sake’s and we still do grunt work. And these lore characters still take credit as were still nameless and might as well don’t exist in the story. (Which makes me wonder if they want to do these kinds of stories, why make an MMO anyways.)
And actually have it be earned. I do grew tired of creating a character where all he did is just collect poo all day for people, and all the sudden he’s the champion who killed the Lich King. Talk about a load of crap.
The entire game experience is subjective. Furthermore, I’m open to discussion, while telling someone they shouldn’t have a voice by saying leave the community is entirely different. Your argument is a fallacious one.
Perhaps people do appreciate acknowledging of their dues. I’m not saying they shouldn’t be acknowledged. I obviously came off too strongly to this community, and my wording was too black and white.
Yeah that kinda took me aback as well…it’s like that is a bad thing to be or something. At least it pays bills and keeps the roof overhead. lol
This is more my speed. I know what my accomplishments are in game, I know what is asked/expected…to have “Champion/class do this - we can’t do that w/o you - take this across the room to the npc I could just as easily deliver the msg to myself but hey you’re here!” spouted about is just…meh…to me.
Or even this -
If they insist on calling us anything at all…
But in the end, these are all our opinions and ppl should take them as such, and some not be so defensive, or aggressive with voicing theirs.
And btw - telling someone to go play another game where these names/titles aren’t used IS quite juvenile since it adds no substance to the conversation, it just shows a weak attempt at chest pounding. It’s also simply rude and dismissive.
Honestly, for added immersion I think that voiced title should change based on your character’s PvE or PvP progression, like depending on what achievements you get for that expansion. This way an NPC would recognize your character for doing something recently monumental.
So if we ever get to down N’Zoth, NPCs would say something like “God slayer” instead.
Yes but it would cost more money to have multiple versions of the same voiced dialogue when they can just call you champion
Take any line where they say “Champion” or “Hero” and now they have to voice 12 versions of that line to adress specific class
Sure World of Warcraft is a top selling mmo but they are cheap.
Why not add more voice acting in general? Costs money
Why else haven’t you updated the visuals of older content? Costs money
Why not actually make engaging quests instead of time consuming tasks? Costs money
Why not make a better character creation system? Costs Money
Why did you guys Not update the Worgen and Goblin models back when you updated the other races in WoD/Legion? Costs Money
Why did you finally update them now? Complaints and Losing money

You want to know the real reason they call us champion?
It’s a business decision
Because WoW aims at the dopamine effect of accomplishments and so they want the player to feel like a winner at all times.
