I have to say, even several expansions later, Legion STILL felt more modern than this.
Yes artifacts were a grind at the start, but aside from that the class quests, Suramar, the music, the transmogs and dungeons felt far more unique (and beautiful) and still hold up to this day imo.
Will blizzard ever be able to top this? What happened?
I get that this is a matter of opinion, and while I definitely have rose tinted goggles for Wotlk, I definitely feel that Legion was the peak of creativity, interesting lore and fun in this game.

And don’t forget godawful RNG legendaries.

The only one that I ever got on my warlock was the Blizzard is feeling sorry for you random world drop feet that let you cast when you’re moving, which I actually liked anyways, but still.

Playing this game since vanilla, nothing beats legion. Fight me.

I really liked Legion. But it just becames Really good mid-late xpack. The beginning of Legion was kinda weak due to the Artifact power being so grindfest and…insanely rng-ish to get.
And, to me, TWW is already very good now at the start of the expansion, so far.
But hey, these are just opinions, and everyone has their own. It’s okay for us to disagree with each other since opinions about which expansion is better are completely subjective.

I do not think they will ever make another legion. There comes a time when everyone runs out of cool ideas. You see this across the entertainment industry.

At the very least all classes had their class hall, doubt we’ll see anything like that ever again.

Uh, I’m enjoying this expansion a lot more than I did early Legion but I guess we still have two tiers for things to shift around. Gotta remember they also abandoned wod to work on Legion so it should be better by default but I don’t know this time.

It’s true - Legion was the chefs kiss they’d avoided producing since Wrath.
And throughout the expansion.
I loved legion, but come on. Let’s not downplay the grind. Lots of people hated it.

Almost like when you legit abandon an expac half way through to work on the next one you can add more polish and flavor, eh.
We were expecting another raid tier and they’re like “sry trying to work on next expansion” and everybody just forgets that.

Artifact weps would have been fine if they made them less grindy.
I think because the story and the vision were so compelling it warranted that.
this is a case where the good outshines the bad
Guess we can push the Stormwind raid out sooner…
Honestly, I don’t think WoW will ever beat Legion just because of the theme. Like, the Burning Legion was THE “Big Bad” of the Warcraft universe at the time, the expansion literally launched with both the Horde and Alliance losing some of their biggest heroes, then we were showered in class fantasy stuff where we became the pinnacle of our classes while fighting some of the biggest enemies set up in the lore.
Afterwards we kinda went back to just being like… Grunts, our classes hardly matter, our characters are unimportant we are just there to do our commanders’ dirty work while offering moral support to the actual heroes. Xal’atath still doesn’t feel like the biggest threat around, even though we’ve been told that she is, throughout the campaign all it felt like was that she was specifically playing around with Alleria.
I just don’t feel even 10% of the immersion I felt during Legion, simply because during Legion my character felt like a in-universe character, BFA forwards it feels like I am watching a story develop in 2nd person, where our characters are simply windows to experience the real protagonists’ stories.

Blizzard haven’t made a good game since well before Legion. Not to say Legion was bad, it really wasn’t, but it wasn’t anywhere near as good as the first 3 WoW games.
D2R was the last truly good product they’ve signed their names to, and it wasn’t even developed by them (outsourced to a third party).
Modern Blizzard do not have the creativity, talent or passion to make anything good anymore. TWW is a clear example of that and you’re wasting your time and money if you think otherwise.
