legion just hit all the marks and also had the full weight of an amazeballs story behind it, there was no way it could fail
Legion easily wins on the story and quest content. The Suramar quest writing in particular is like the only time I actually found myself actually caring about WoW characters because the interactions with the Nightfallen actually felt like a believable relationship rather than just being told what to do.
Instanced gameplay wise though, I definitely prefer Delves and current Mythic Dungeons over release Legionâs mythic dungeons and artifact power grind.

Legion sucked for the first two patches.
RNG legendries.
The artefact grind.
I donât disagree with that. I just disagree with the suggestion that the grind was just at the start of the expansion. Even when we felt done, along comes the netherlight crucible to let us grind some more.
Legion wasnât perfect, but story and raids / dungeons and fresh new mythic + were so sick.
MOP-WOD-Legion are the only expansions I stuck with till the end.
BFA had me at the first half, SL 
, DF was a better step forward.
Theyâre still moving in the correct direction, I donât think they took any steps back in TWW yet.
But yes it would be sick to have another expansion like Legion, I wish classhalls came back as an evergreen feature.

Pretty much this.
Legion easily felt like the expansion that WoW was building up to for all of itâs lifespan (story wise) and it doesnât seem like itâll ever be possible to achieve that high point again.

Top Legion? Well, yes.
It is called âThe War Within.â
Weâll just have to wait and see if it retains that spot as better than Legion, because currently from everything thatâs available in TWW ⌠it is better. But Legion is a full expansion we can look back at and realize it was great throughout it all for the overwhelming majority of the time.
So we need to see more of TWWâs gameplay loop with M+, whether the raid(s) will be able to maintain playerâs interests, and whether the content is good enough on itâs own.

Legion remains the only expac I ever quit over the game itself and not any external factor.
It lies in the gutter right beside Shadowlands as far as Iâm concerned.
Idk why people like Legion so much.
Allied races are dumb. Legendary weapons were dumb, not even mentioning the bad RNG involved. The plot was stupid nostalgia bait and was a retcon of a retcon.
Also PVP stat templates.
Iâd take TWW launch than legion launch anyday of the week lmao
Legion had a rocky start too remember.

i dont disagree with âeveryone is le heckin asbringer now!!â and AP grind was messy. The plot has progressively gotten worse with each subsequent expansion since then but Iâd say slands did it the worst.

Been here since the TBC days, and while Iâm still partial to that xpac and wolk, I do agree Legion was right there with them. Best open world content the game has ever seen imho. Had itâs probs like any other expansion but was great for the most part. Just canât get into Tww tbh. Not horrible but just not as much fun. Still early though so maybe it will get better in future patches. As of now about the only reason i mess with retail is for the time walk monthly event.
Why are you comparing a full expansion to the first patch of another one? By the way, Legion was bad at launch, with terrible systems that got fixed much later.

Legion is the best in terms of introducing void elves to the game and being grounded in terms of the early experience.
But TWW has climbed to the top in terms of narrative and gameplay with no external controversial mechanics and among other elements from the legion era of design philosophy.
The Worldsoul saga is a lot more grounded than say legion.
But one thing has topped legion villain is Xalâatath she is well written versus previous villains.
