Steamdeck update error

I play this game on both my PC and Steam Deck, but since the recent hot fix, I’ve encountered issues updating it on my Steam Deck. The update initializes for a few minutes before it abruptly stops and displays an error message.

May want to move this to the technical support forum and provide details (e.g. the error code).

I appreciate it. I looked into a couple of these before coming here and none of the fixes are working. I will check out the other solutions you linked here that I have yet to try thanks again!

Did you create those topics on this character? I don’t see any posts in Tech Support by you, ever, in your post history.

Tech Support is now totally player to player. Since Jan 2024 layoffs Blizzard does not offer tech support other than some basic support articles with general help tips. There are no more Tech Support Blues to drop into the TS forums. You may find other players, including MVPs who try to help, but that is it.

Voxheart is a great example of someone being helpful :slight_smile:

What point are you trying to make Warthinator? Pretty sure most folks know the Tech Support staff was cut and so was the service. Nobody is pretending otherwise. Nicole (MVP) is very open about it in her posts. Heck, they even removed the IP addresses from the support articles so we can’t help players run WinMTRs or traces anymore for connection troubleshooting.

The GM staff is not the Tech Support staff. They still have GMs who handle tickets (mostly billing, account access, and chat infractions), and forum moderation is done mostly by the CS Forum Support Agents now.

Why did they cut TS? I think Microsoft does not feel that a game company should offer hardware and software tech support outside of making sure the game runs on the tested target platforms in the system requirements. Blizzard was unusual in having it. Modern cost cutting sucks.

I usually only ever have in game issues which I usually post on the character I’m experiencing the issue with, In my experience over the years posting anything on the tech support forms is met with crickets or trolling.

Leave it to Blizzard to give people even more reason’s to not play this game.

Use proton experimental
Select scan and repair on battle.net app for wow
During the scan you must exit out of bnet completely
Switch to proton 8
Open battle net and your update should work

If that doesn’t work then delete proton files first before trying the above steps again.

Like others are saying, this is happening to other Linux users, so hopefully the blizz team fixes the update error in the near future as this is not a super unique issue.

Linux is not a supported operating system for Blizzard games. It never has been. People are free to use it if they can get it working, but Blizzard does not make games for it. They also don’t support Mac anymore for most of their games.

For Linux, it is very much up to the Linux community to help eachother out.

They won’t do anything about it, best to reach out to the Lutris team.

Thankfully, switching compatibility versions is helping people with the problem and should show up in a Google search in the future.

I would love for Blizzard to offer support for Linux, especially with SteamOS soon to arrive to other handheld manufacturers (and even a desktop release later).

Isn’t that essentially a Linux based system? I ask because several Linux users posted about issues with updating too elsewhere in the forums.
