Steam info

I know this isn’t WoW related, but I wanted to make sure people saw it, just in case you didn’t get an email or see anything about it. I’m assuming there are others who also use Steam here.

~89 million Steam account details leaked, including 2fa details. Check yo stuff.

Like password leak and security breach, or more like they know what games I own typa leak?

I don’t have any of you freaky bois dating sims and novel thingies whatever so I’m good.

My initial digging is many are saying (including some info sec pros) this should not be a mass concern. The claimed data leaked is largely sms data - like purchase dates phone numbers . There’s no credit card or password info store in this data.

Still a good time to update your password if it’s been awhile . I’m changing mine tonight as I just realized it’s been a few years with the same password.

How can they get my password if I don’t even remember what my own password is!

For clarity, its emails and phone numbers, not passwords, so it’ll likely be used for spearfishing rather than direct access.

Yeah, just change/update your Pw’s and make sure you’re using Steam Guard if you’re not already. Better to be safe than sorry is all I’m saying.

We’ve seen the games you play

Those games are far beyond dating

i am good i get info about user logging in a another location info
and i would like to add why the alleged hacker only asking 5k for the whole thing
also i would have gotten an email from steam if they was hit. and no one is reporting email from steam about the breach

It’s loosely game related so I think you’re fine. Ty for posting this.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/1kmrqlt/heres_a_statement_from_valve_on_the_reported/

So if I’m reading this correctly, it seems there was no leak. At least for steam accounts.

this was what i looked up also and 5k for all accounts is what gave it away as a false flag type of news

Lol. I welcome the big moron who will make even a slight attempt in getting my Steam account.

Results will be super pathetic yet entertaining.

This was the Valve statement for those that didn’t read Z’s link:

The leak consisted of older text messages that included one-time codes that were only valid for 15-minute time frames and the phone numbers they were sent to. The leaked data did not associate the phone numbers with a Steam account, password information, payment information or other personal data. Old text messages cannot be used to breach the security of your Steam account, and whenever a code is used to change your Steam email or password using SMS, you will receive a confirmation via email and/or Steam secure messages.

Thanks for this. I’ve been seeing a lot of conflicting information about this breach. Pretty sure my account is safe then. lol

true valve has a good hit team lol

Also as a PSA, scammers can now spoof bank phone numbers and call to tell you that your account has fraudulent charges. DO NOT let them send you a code to verify your account. Tell them you’ll look at it yourself and call the bank right back. And then get the phone number for your bank off of the back of your card, NOT off of Google. They spoof those websites too.

Yeah. It’s surprisingly easy to get scammed nowadays if people aren’t careful.
