Yo, Blizzard! Something to consider. Finish your native controller support so people don’t need to download addons to make this work. Maybe also consider partnering up with Valve on this one to get native Steam Deck support. Playing WoW on the go is an appealing prospect:
Does the steam deck allow for addons to be installed? There is one called console port which may work.
The deck does allow addons to be installed. Curseforge has a Linux client that works wonders with the Steam Deck.
@OP: I just installed ConsolePort along with syncing my addons from my Desktop. Ended up setting everything up there and then resyncing back to the deck. Works perfectly. Been able to do dailies and such.
As for native support, Activision just got a page on Steam that has many of their games for direct download. I’d say Blizz is on the way.
The Steam Deck is a portable pc. I’m fairly certain you can install windows on it. So it would run things like a normal pc.
I’m curious if the SD could run WoW at 60fps.
Also, have any of you tried using the controller customization settings in Big Picture mode?
Ahh ok, don’t know much about it! Maybe I’ll try to order one if that’s the case. Thought it could just play steam games, hence the name.
Would depend on the SD card you have installed. Faster the better. Currently I have it running at 60 fps, but I turned down some settings for longer battery life. Also turned off any unneeded mods.
SteamOS has something called Proton with it that allows you to install any Linux or Windows game. I literally have games from GOG, Epic Game Store, Steam, Blizzard launcher, and Origin installed on the device. Only ran into a few issues which I just change the Proton version and they tend to work.
How is it for WoW? You said you do dailies is that all it’s good for? Dailies and maybe the AH?
Also… how do you type?
I wish Valve would make them available in the rest of the world first, such as here in Australia were we can’t even purchase one without going through a lot of hoops.
Dailies for the most part. I don’t think I could do a dungeon till I learned my controls better, but I could see someone doing anything lower than M+. I’m also playing on Wifi so a bit of lag.
There is a nice onscreen keyboard if you want to type… but I never really talk in game so I don’t use it. I guess you could use a Bluetooth keyboard if you wanted to.
I’d recommend giving this thread a read:
