actually tracking makes you able to see rouges while stealthing. So when the add on alerts you, you put on track hidden
That’s an interesting argument. It’s not an oversight because this is the way it was in Vanilla, but should it have been implemented like this?
Imagine playing D&D and when you go to make a stealth roll, before the NPC even rolls perception, they are automatically notified that an enemy is present and go on alert. Or playing TF2 and the game notifies you automatically when there is a spy nearby.
Spy was in vanilla.
Nevertheless, add-ons were part of vanilla, as well, regardless of whether they “changed the paradigm” or any such nonsense. As long as it doesn’t violate the ToS, it shouldn’t be banned.
This add-on does not violate the ToS.
Which, was not as commonplace as it is now. This, again, represents a paradigm shift in how the game is played, because of this addon.
See above.
That’s your opinion. I don’t care about what the ToS is or is not when weighing that against what is good for the game. In my opinion, Spy is bad for the game. That is more important to me than whether or not it violates ToS.
Irrelevant.
That doesn’t matter.
DBM also presents a “paradigm shift.” It still doesn’t violate the ToS, so it will not be banned.
No, that’s fact.
So your subjective feelings are more important than objective criteria for the add-on developers to follow.
Except, it is relevant. This has changed how WoW is played.
This is irrelevant to the matter at hand. I have not been talking about whether it will be banned, but rather whether it should be banned.
No,
is an opinion.
To me, yes. And subjective feelings such as these are important to be taken into consideration for the overall health of a game. If people hate a feature of a game, whether or not it breaks the rules or not, doesn’t really change the fact that the playerbase’s satisfaction is impacted by said feature and it changes the game.
The more you guys complain of this, the more people learn about this addon and install it
That is the point of all add-ons. That doesn’t make the add-on unacceptable.
And it should not, because it doesn’t violate the ToS.
What is the point of the ToS if something can be banned despite it? Why have rules and limitations on what is acceptable if it is not followed?
But fine, the fact I agree with rules and not your feelings is an opinion, yes.
The add-on is not a feature of the game. It is an optional addition to it.
Sounds more like a PvP Server/general PvP issue. Makes me laugh, hard 'cause there’s all these problems with PvP. I’m just happily sitting in my PvE corner, eating popcorn as the PvP community are throwing punches at each other, in how a PvP community/environment should and shouldn’t “be like”
If you took the time to read my post above it explains that this addon literally cannot be banned.
It won’t be banned, ever. Because it can’t be.
Okay, sidestep the issue then.
I realize that is your opinion.
ToS can be changed. Generally speaking, new information/practices/technologies appear all the time and rules can and do change to reflect the changes in the world.
^Just another sidestep.
Neat. Are you ready to address the argument?
Paranoia existed in Vanilla. Stop pretending we didn’t have combat log readers.
Protip: just ignore Geburah. You could say that water is wet, and he would still try find a way to disagree, just to be right and prove you wrong.
Declaring that he has refuted your arguments without actually having done anything is his specialty. He is especially keen to do this when he doesn’t have a response to your counterpoint, like that kid in the playground who calls upon his “everything-proof shield”.
Edit. I already see you typing, Geburah. Just wanted to post this PSA, please note I won’t actually read or care about your post.
Kind of a function of you never producing good arguments. Rather than craft a better argument or learn from the exchange and refine your views, you instead get mad and make a bunch of ad hominem attacks. Cool.
Neat, you’ll just stalk me on the forums and quote my posts. More power to you!
How is that a sidestep? I’m addressing your point directly.
The actual purpose of add-ons is to change the way the game is played to better suit your personal preferences. by modifying your UI and the information it conveys.
More accurately, I don’t think this actually changes the way the game is played. Without this add-on, you read the combat log. With this add-on, the add-on reads the combat log for you.
Ultimately, you are still relying on some part of your UI to alert you that someone nearby has stealthed. You haven’t really changed how you are playing the game; just how the information is presented to you.
Sure, the add-on makes it easier, but again… that is the whole point of add-ons.
Then advocate for that to be changed, rather than advocating for an add-on to be banned despite it being acceptable under the current ToS.
This isn’t new. It existed in vanilla. What part of that is unclear?
Only if you start with a premise that cannot be refuted.
Spy is not a game feature; it is an add-on. You have suggested that ALL ADDONS be banned. That is a change, and thus defeats the point of Classic. You have suggested THIS ADD-ON be banned. This add-on existed in vanilla, and banning it is a change, thus defeating the point of Classic.
Yes, but not to specifically scan for potential Rogues, but just to scan for anything that stands out. That’s why my UI is setup with two chat panes: one for world/trade/guild/whispers, one for combat only, and I use Prat to color code it all.
Incredulity isn’t a rebuttal. The addon does what you can already do yourself but with a cleaner UI, just like any other addon. It has no other unique skills or special gamebreaking abilities, it simply reads what the game already records and tells all other players.
Your complaint is actually that you enjoy ganking folks who don’t pay attention to their in-game signals, so you hate an addon that makes those signals clearer and easier to track.
I don’t like whining about addons as I use some like recount, Icehud etc. But addons that do things for the player need be banned!
The Spy Addon scans the territory for enemy players, this is an unfair in game Radar.
tbh everyone who rolls rogue on a pvp server deserves this addon. especially undeads.
Addons that assist in knowledge or game abilities, not addons that RADAR the zone for you!
