They need more runeforges in order to do that. Apoc is just bad, even with the “buff” it got for this xpac. Stoneskin would end up being the default I think if they did that.
Anyone remember rune of Cinderglacier? I would love to see that come back.
I’m inclined to agree with you. I was just stating that the DK situation isn’t unique to DK’s. Blizzard has their pet classes, and DK’s aren’t one of them.
True, if anything. I think the lot of Runeforges could use a makeover and give more direct damage increase. Because so far, FC is the strongest of them all next to Stoneskin Gargoyle.
FC straight up gives you 15%+ Strength on Proc. Not counting with Unholy Bond.
Stoneskin gives you steady 5%+ armor and stats. Not counting with Unholy Bond.
Razorice gives you 3%+ Frost Vulnerability on top of Extra Frost Dammies. Not counting with Unholy Bond. General damage increase for Frost.
The rest… don’t give direct damage increase. Spellwarden (The talent, not the Runeforge before they removed it) and Sanguination saw play in PvP in a niche scenario.
Spellwarden could give you some magic damage increase. In turn, make Stoneskin Gargoyle fare against Physical Damage Dealers.
Sanguination could give you damage increase in general not just Death Strike based on target’s missing health.
Unending Thirst could give you Haste on top of MS. Double up on kill.
You also apply Apocalypse through your own AAs and high ability procs. On top of your Timmy. The buffs should give a lot more damage as well stacking up to 5 times. Same duration of Razorice.
War gives increased damage taken by 3% per stack.
Pestilence gives 8% slow per stack rather than steady 30% slow.
Famine gives reduced damage and healing done by 3% per stack.
Death gives reduced healing taken by 3% per stack.
All of these deal Shadow Damage Over Time rather than exclusively to Pestilence.
Cinderglacier gives a Proc that makes your next Shadow or Frost ability to nuke. Yes, good times.
Hysteria returns and gives RP abilities more damage. To avoid making this Runeforge synergize with BoS, rather than RP generation proc, it should be steered to Globals using Runic Power Damage Increase.
Something like these above… that actually give options.
yes, and it didnt proc enough and overall couldnt compete with FC + RI. It was more of a pvp try to stack a bunch of procs enchant or for aoe scenarios in later expansions.
I really dont get the huge fascination with runeforges. Yes FC has been used since wrath… but whats the problem? Its probably the best enchant in the game that you get for free.
Maybe using Rime could be a way to tune for single target. I for one, would love rime to hit like a truck and feel good to press again.
Can do this by removing the splash damage from Howling Blast and Avalanche then buffing rime substantially.
On the PTR, Rime feels bad to press because there is no interaction with the set and the set incentivizes you to mash Obliterate and Frost Strike as much as possible which feels horrible. Especially as Riders.
Delete RM resets, 7.6% dps variance is the highest of any dps spec and its the biggest offender. Ofc there’s still IDT/KM rune refunds/AA KM procs, but having so much damage tied to whether or not you got multiple resets AND crits is not the best design to put it lightly. Give DK back something like Unholy Aura from WoD, but trim it down to just a % haste buff instead of haste/vers. Also not being able to grip like, anything in the new raid on PTR is a huge meme.
Gonna throw out an idea with all the Runeforge talk. Just get rid of them. Chuck the whole system into the sea after burning it to ash.
It’s been a decade and a half and there’s less then a dozen forge enchants, with most people only taking FC for 16 solid years. Something I’m sure is part of the constant ‘blood strike must be nerfed’ issue since it provides RNGesus healing, not to mention the built-in damage boost procs that I’m sure plays a role in other nerfs as well.
You could set the forges up as passive, talents, ability procs, even incorporated into our mastery, but as is the system is garbage and throws attempts at balance out of whack. Plus it prevents us from using other weapon enchants like everyone else in the game, some of which would have been useful in their expansion.
